Pure Japanese titanium — not titanium alloy. The material’s inherent hardness makes the screwless interlocking construction possible, while its low density keeps the frame at a weight that most metal eyewear cannot achieve. The layered inner rim simultaneously serves as the structural interlocking element and increases lens coverage for prescription wearers, without adding visual mass to the profile.

Basara is a 14th-century Japanese concept — born in the Nanboku-chō period when certain samurai broke with aristocratic convention and asserted identity through flamboyant dress and visible individuality. The Nakanishi family traces its lineage to the samurai class. TVR®538 & TVR®539 carry that spirit forward: a frame that refuses to look like everything else on the market.

Founded in 1928 in Fukuoka, Nakanishi 1928® has spent nearly a century preserving Japan’s artisanal eyewear traditions, evolving from precious metal craftsmanship to refined handmade frame making across four generations. Masayoshi Nakanishi, the designer of TVR®538 & TVR®539, discreetly engraved the family ancestral kamon as a tribute and reinforcement of the brand’s cultural heritage.

TAKABO is an archival frame design originating in the late 1930s, originally constructed in celluloid and gold by the first generation of the Nakanishi family. TVR®538 & TVR®539 revive their original temple and bridge geometry, recast in pure Japanese titanium nearly ninety years later. The DUOTONE construction introduces two contrasting titanium finishes within a single structure, the darkness of pure titanium set against the richness of gold in perfect harmony.

Beyond aesthetics, the layered inner rim offers enhanced lens coverage, making the collection particularly suited for prescription wearers while maintaining a sleek metal profile.

Emboding the spirit of Basara, the historical expression of bold individuality, four distinct Karakusa patterns are engraved across the titanium surface of the bridges, outer rims, front end rivets, and temples. These motifs are drawn from the archives of both TVR®OPT and the Nakanishi family, intertwining across the frame in a configuration that has no precedent in titanium eyewear. On the rear of each temple, lasered quietly into the metal: the Nakanishi family kamon, a samurai lineage mark in use for six centuries.

TVR®OPT introduces the all-new TVR®538 & TVR®539 “Basara”, made with pure Japanese Titanium Collection, and held together in the way a joint in a 700-year-old temple does.
This collection is the epitome of traditional Japanese joinery with contemporary material.

The front structure uses an interlocking technique drawn from traditional Japanese temple architecture — no screws, no conventional assembly. Two titanium components in contrasting finishes are mechanically interlocked through structural engagement alone. The hardness of pure titanium makes it possible, resulting in enhanced durability, lightness, and refined engineering.

Originally first launched in Korea, this edition of the TVR®527SP Celluloid Premium Sterling Silver Collection in Grey Crystal features meticulously selected silver C.O. rivets (Corner Ornament Rivets) that harmonize with the grey celluloid. The result is a sophisticated balance of strength and elegance, highlighting the inherent beauty of the material itself.

“The previous TVR®527 2007 Celluloid Collection utilized gold-tone C.O. rivets to align with its vintage concept,” explains Tsubota Masato. “For Grey colour - a leading trend that never fades, silver material becomes a natural language for the interpretation.”
