You need a househelp, cleaner, driver, shop attendant, waiter, cook, caregiver, gardener, or another local worker. Somewhere nearby, there is someone with the skills looking for exactly that opportunity. The problem has always been connecting the two.

That is what we are building with KaziYetu. Employers can create an account, post jobs and connect with local workers from one platform. We are now live, and we are inviting employers to join us early and start creating opportunities.

Good people. Good work.

Sasa vijana, kitambo huko India, some leaders decided to place a bounty on dead cobras so watu waziue zipungue. But kina Kamau sharp boys saw a business opportunity. Instead of killing cobras, wakaanza kuzifuga so they could kill them and collect the bounty.

Serikali ikagundua hii biashara and cancelled the bounty. Kina Kamau, now stuck with useless cobras, wakaachilia zote. Result... More cobras than before. This is called the Cobra Effect: sometimes a solution creates incentives that make the original problem worse.

It is closely related to Goodhart’s Law: “When a measure becomes a target, it stops being a good measure.” You want knowledge, so you target 50 books. Soon you are rushing through books just to hit 50. December inafika books ni 50, knowledge ni ile ile. At work, measure sales only and people chase numbers instead of customers. Measure developers by lines of code, utapata mtu ameandika 500 lines kufanya kazi ya 50.

Lesson? Don’t confuse the scoreboard with the game.

A lot of businesses don't actually have a system. They have people who remember things.
Ask about stock, someone knows. Ask about a customer balance, someone has it written somewhere. Ask for last month's numbers, someone needs two days to prepare an Excel sheet. Everything works perfectly until that particular person is absent, resigns, or simply forgets.
That is usually when you realize the business was depending on people's memory instead of a proper process. Good software doesn't replace your people; it gives them a better way to work and gives the business a memory of its own.

That is the kind of work we do at OMKTech Solutions. We study how your business operates, identify what can be automated, and build systems around the actual problem.
Your business should know what is happening, even when Kevin is on leave.

Yesterday we spent part of the day getting our OMKTech Survey field team ready for an upcoming exercise. Because when it comes to data collection, having a good system is only half the job. The people going into the field need to understand the questionnaire, know how to approach respondents and, most importantly, know how to record information correctly. Bad data collected using good software is still bad data.

So we went through the process, tested the system and made sure everyone understands what is expected of them before going into the field. Even the reflective jackets and name tags are deliberate. If someone approaches you asking questions, you should be able to clearly identify who they are and who they represent.

That is the other side of OMKTech Survey. We don't just build systems for surveys and opinion polls; we also support the actual fieldwork, from preparing enumerators and digital data collection to monitoring, analysis and reporting. Good decisions start with good data.

A bakery can be busy from morning to evening and still be losing money without anyone noticing. Flour is coming in, sugar, eggs and margarine are being used, bread is leaving the shelves, cakes are being sold...business looks good.

But at the end of the day, do you know exactly how much it cost you to produce what you sold? Do you know whether 50kg of flour produced what it was supposed to produce, how much was wasted, or where the difference went?

That is what our Bakery Production Management System helps you understand. From ingredients to production, wastage, costing and finished products, you can finally see what is actually happening inside your bakery. Because being busy is good, but knowing whether you are making money is better.

Politics in Kenya and software development are actually very similar. What you see on the front page of newspapers, the speeches, slogans, political fights and statements flying around every day are mostly the frontend. It is like the nice button you click on a website or the form you fill in. It is what you are supposed to see.

But anyone who has built software knows the button is rarely where the real work happens. The real stuff is in the backend. That is where the logic sits, where decisions are made and where one action quietly triggers five other things you never see. Politics is not very different. Behind the speeches are meetings, interests, friendships, deals, golf clubs, phone calls and conversations happening behind closed doors. Sometimes two people fighting seriously on your television probably understand each other much better than the people fighting for them on Facebook.

So before you hate someone because of a slogan, tribe, political camp or today's trending political position, ask yourself one question: Am I looking at the whole system, or am I just looking at the frontend? Because in software, if you judge an entire system by what is happening on the screen, you have understood very little about how it actually works.

One thing we considered seriously when building OMKFarm was cost. Farming already has enough expenses. Between workers, feeds, veterinary costs, farm inputs, equipment and all those small expenses that somehow become very big expenses at the end of the month, asking a farmer to make another large upfront commitment doesn't always make sense.

So we decided to make it simple. Try OMKFarm first. Add your farm, livestock, crops, poultry, employees, expenses, sales and inventory, then see how the system works with your actual operation. I would rather you experience the system yourself than read a long list of features telling you what it can do.

The trial is free, and if OMKFarm makes sense for your farm, subscriptions start from Ksh 1,000 per month. Start small, use it, and upgrade as your farm and needs grow.

Love teaches you things you never intend to learn. It teaches you patience whenever every instinct in your body is screaming to walk away... It teaches you pride when everything is telling you to walk away.

It teaches you that someone’s happiness can somehow become as important as your own. Sometimes, and occasionally, love teaches you how to lose. And maybe that is a cruel lesson, because loving someone doesn’t guarantee they will stay... it doesn’t promise you a happy ending. People leave. People change. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they become someone you no longer recognise... yet somehow, what they taught you remains — favourite songs, restaurants...

Love leaves fingerprints everywhere, and perhaps that is the point. We spend too much of our lives trying to protect ourselves, building walls, convincing ourselves that needing someone else is some terrible weakness... and then someone comes along, and suddenly the walls have windows. You begin seeing the world through someone else’s eyes. You become soft in places that you thought had hardened...

That is why love is the best teacher.
