The best way!

πŸ‘¨πŸ½πŸš› Man versus machine in the cotton industry: Did you know that cotton in African growing areas is harvested mainly by hand? This has two major advantages: Harvesting by hand is a much more careful and environmentally sound way ✌️. Only completely mature cotton bolls are picked. Another benefit is that hand-picking, unlike machine harvesting, does not use defoliant, so there is less chemical contamination of the cotton. CmiA is a fine, soft and beautiful fiber, don't you think? So watch out for the label when buying new clothes! πŸ˜πŸ‘š

This is why I’m loving using CMIA supporting cotton in my designs this year!

About 1.000.000 certified smallholders grow cotton so that an increasing number of textile companies and brands worldwide can use sustainable CmiA cotton πŸ‘š. Did you know that the cotton plant needs about 200 days of sunshine?β˜€οΈ Sub-Saharan Africa offers therefore the best conditions.

πŸ¦’πŸ˜Wild animals and their habitat are endangered. According to the subspecies of the Masai giraffes in Kenya and Tanzania has declined by nearly 50% in the last 30 years, largely because of poaching and changes in land use. As sustainable cotton initiative, the cohabitation of humans and wild animals is fundamental to CmiA. Therefore, deforestation of primary forests is prohibited as well as encroaching upon nature reserves. It depends on us πŸ‘£. More at https://on.natgeo.com/2Sl76jk

Amazing work CMIA!

One of Cotton made in Africaβ€˜s key targets is to empower female cotton farmers in rural Africa in order to sustainably improve the living conditions of whole communities. To put this aim into practice, is working with gender officers on the ground. One of them is Nyambe Muchindu Nawa from Zambia. She works for a CmiA certified cotton company and is a direct contact person for female farmers on the ground. She supports the women with special trainings or projects. With her help, female farmers get the support to kick-start their own business and step into economic independence πŸ˜ƒπŸ’ͺ. It was a pleasure to meet Nyambe and learn from her πŸ’›.
