"Those who know me know I've lived most of my life roughing it all over the world, working in the harshest environments, in the most basic conditions. I'd never really considered wanting or needing something as fancy as handmade wool slippers to walk around my place after a long day of field work... until now.
These are the best, most comfortable, fanciest slippers I've ever owned. I doubt I'll ever own anything remotely comparable ever. They fit like a glove, they aren't too hot even in the Cambodian tropical climate and they are so fun to wear ! I love finding them by my bedside table in the morning, putting them on, fixing myself a coffee then watching the sunrise with my feet comfortably cuddled in them. It makes me feel very special indeed.
I also had the opportunity to visit the workshop where they were produced here in Siem Reap, Cambodia. As someone who worked on investigating workers' rights and fair trade in Southeast Asia, I can attest I've rarely seen better working conditions in manufacturing. The women producing these items benefit from the best environment, rights and advantages I've seen in the region. And just that is reason enough to buy a pair of slippers, espadrilles or shoes there. It's an investment in a better future for Cambodia, an easy way to support exemplary practices and encourage other businesses to reproduce the same model.
