Marṣabēn · مرصبان A modern approach to crochet based on research and experimentation while retaining the craft’s fundamental attributes.

Marṣabēn is an initiative by Elie Mouhanna that utilizes a modern approach to hand-made crochet based on research and experimentation while retaining the craft's fundamental attributes—the fact that it’s time- and logic-based—and a high level of craftsmanship that is slowly diminishing. Our intention is to focus on the process and the outcome as equally considerable aspects in crochet works. There

is so much intricacy and dedication embedded in the process of creation; at the same time, we find it essential to constantly explore the various unconventional ways in which crochet can be applied. Our focus on the craft will allow us to expand our knowledge of it. And through a series of design projects, interdisciplinary collaborations, residency programs, and workshops we intend to extend the boundaries—hence the function—of crochet as a time-based craft, today. In April 2016, marṣabēn was invited by Bokja Design to present the inaugural edition of “Groundwork: Introduction to Crochet” at their showroom, a 6-sessions crochet course for beginners that focuses on process and skill. In 2017, marṣabēn was selected by Starch Foundation to showcase its first collection, softsolids01, which will be on sale at the Starch Foundation Boutique in Saïfi Village.

Excited to announce that we're flying to TUMO Studios in a couple weeks to give a crochet workshop!

For those who will happen to be in Armenia in January, don't miss out on this intensive workshop.

Marṣabēn տեքստիլի ընկերության Էլի Մուհաննան շուտով Թումո ստուդիաներ կժամանի` ձեզ ներկայացնելու ձեռագործ գործվածքների ժամանակակից մոտեցումներն ու միտումները: Ոգեշնչվելով հայկական դիցաբանության պատկերներից` դուք հնարավորություն կունենաք յուրացնելու գործվածքի տարբեր տեխնիկաներ ու զարգացնելու նոր հմտություններ՝ ստեղծելով կիրառելի իրերի հավաքածու:

Աշխատարանը կանցկացվի հունվարի 8-ից մինչև փետրվարի 2-ը` երկուշաբթիից ուրբաթ, ժամը 15:30-ից 20:00-ն: Այն բաց և անվճար է 18-ից 28 տարեկան երիտասարդների համար:

Elie Mouhanna from the textile company Marṣabēn will soon be coming to TUMO Studios to teach you a modern approach to hand-made crochet. Using the theme of Armenian mythology as your inspiration, you'll learn different techniques in structural crocheting and gain new skills as you create a collection of wearable objects.

The atelier meets from January 8th until February 2nd, Monday to Friday from 3:30-8:00 pm. It is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 28 and is free of charge.
