Navyāti is an attempt to capture relatively overlooked aspects of ancient Sri Lankan art, culture and folk heritage, while integrating these elements with contemporary textile design. It juxtaposes motifs, imagery and forms from ancient Sri Lanka with modern design through silhouettes, print and color. A unique feature of the brand is its textile development, which involves hand painted motifs tra

nsferred onto digital prints, and layered with touches of various western embroidery techniques. Through the use of such techniques as well as a play with traditional art forms, the brand hopes to bridge the gap between ancient and modern design, with the hope of being both accessible and intriguing for contemporary customers.
