Broderie Anglaise AKA Madeira work is a heritage craft of Sri Lanka which is heavily influenced by the invasion of Portuguese & British. (During 16th &19th centuries)
In present this technique is a declining form of craft among the artisans. TAOA S/S 2020 collection is an attempt to introduce Ceylonese cultural essence along with designer involvement to this declining artisans craft.
Collection introduces as Ceylonese intervention to Broderie Anglaise.
The designer has developed advanced Broderie Anglaise patterns which are far different from the currently established designs by introducing unique details of Sri Lankan motifs to the technique.
The clothing silhouettes are an amalgamation of Kandyan and southern iconic fashion styles of Sri Lanka.
The designer has chosen this earthy color palette from the hues of Sri Lankan natural landscapes.
This collection has used sustainable materials and processes when making the garments while ethically trying to give a hand to the artisans.
