Worked with some lovely linens the past couple of weeks. First a cape.
A costume staple I recommend all children (in the world!😉) to have, since it is literally the most versatile piece of costuming to have. You can hide under it and be a stone one minute and transform it into the flying power of a superhero the next with pirate, princess, wizard, witch and little red riding hood all thrown in between. Get a cape for your child!
This one had a good amount of volume. In fact a little too much for my cutting table, so I needed to cut on the floor. And the client liked a simple hook and loop closure on the inside, so his son could embellish the closure with a pin he already has.
Two tipps when buying a cloak for your child:
* the younger the child, the shorter it should be. Long capes can trip kids and although us adults find the idea of the floor scraping cloak a great one, kids get frustrated when they fall over their clothes.
* check the seams. Depending on the cut, there can be a lot of stress on especially the shoulder seams due to the amount of fabric pulling on them. I sew mine with French seams (which means they are sewn twice) rather than an overlocked single seam.
