RE by Veronica started from an idea to create sustainable pieces through ethical and sustainable manufacturing. Fast fashion is a massive source of fabric waste and unethical products — products are made fast, people are paid little and products are often of poor quality. RE products are all handmade, made in Moldova, with great attention to quality and from recycled or deadstock materials. Before

getting to sewing, all materials are washed, dried naturally and ironed. Reducing fabric waste and using recyclable and compostable materials are a priority in all processes. The labels, package and shipping supplies are selected carefully not to include (or include as little as possible) plastic and unsustainable materials. Most of the supplies and accessories used in the process are also recycled which means that some products can have different buttons, which also makes them unique and one-of-a-kind.

Packaging 🌼

One of the reasons I love selling my handmade creations is the packaging. I get to experiment and make it as lovable as I can while aiming to use only degradable materials ♻️
This time of the year I'm using tissue paper, h**p twine and dried flowers 💝

A new make for the house 🏠

I am fine with summer drafts and chill winds BUT they make the doors go crazy. So I have been wanting for a while to make some door stoppers which would look nice, go along with the door colour and, of course, do their job. After some search for inspiration, I found an example from which I thought would look well for my room and got down to work. Thanks for the detailed blog post! 🙏

The fabric I used are leftovers from the curtains I have in the room (after they were fitted around 40 cms were cut from them) and inside they have a plastic bag filled with cat litter. I was supposed to put inside something heavy, and as I didn't want to put grains or other food inside, the cat litter did its job perfectly! Oh, the advantages to live with a cat! 🐱
The small ribbon is an old faux suede tape I had which I think was some decoration to an old pair of boots. Recycling all the way! 🌿

And now no doors will dance under the summer winds!

New (failed) upcycling project 💚

I got many synthetic threads in this colour I love and wanted to try to make embroidered bookmarks but it didn't go well... The embroidery gets bulky, has too many loose ends on the wrong side (hiding them, as I usually do, didn't give the wanted result because the threads just don't stay hidden 😢).

But I am not giving up!

I took a break! 🧶

As you could have noticed, I was a bit out of posting here the last couple of weeks. Social Media platforms have never been a thing I liked to spend too much time on compared to creative work, reading, or pursuing other projects. I’m finding it draining my energy and worsening my vision (screen time and myopia don’t go along very well 😅). So I’m trying to take it slowly now 🌿

The last weeks I spent my time-for-sewing to make some custom orders, a failed recycling project, I finally got my hands on some personal sewing ideas which were quietly waiting their time, and also took care of some personal things ☺️

I have some thoughts for new RE projects but for now, I just wanted to bring you the news that the fabric garlands are for sale! 🎉
At the moment I have only this cream-herbarium palette available but I am planning to make some more, to give a new purpose to all the scraps I’ve gathered ✂️

There will be no clothes (this time) but I promise the things I am making are also going to be lovely and all made by me!

Did you know that using a cotton bag is claimed to be better than using plastic bags but it is not as simple as it seems? 🤔

❗An UK study found that to have lower global warming potential than single-use plastic bags, a cotton bag should be used at least 131 times.
Also, according to a Danish study, a cotton bag can be reused for more than 7000 times before throwing it away. Incredible!

♻️ Things get much better for the planet and our environmental carbon footprint when the bags are made from recycled materials, or when we don't buy new ones but thrift them, borrow them or mend the ones that have some holes.

🛍️ The totes I make are from upcycled thrifted bedsheets and can serve you a long time! They come in two sizes: 36x39 cms (Daisy tote) and 39x36 cms (Gerbera tote). Daisy is perfect for shopping and carrying things while Gerbera suits better for carrying bulkier things as it is wider than the Daisy tote. You can check more details on my website.

In the photo you can see a lovely Daisy tote after serving me for my last grocery shopping. I usually carry one of my totes with me to decrease the plastic I would need to use. I also love the print! 🌿
