With almost 200 credits to his name and 6ft 3in to his frame, the late Donald Sutherland cast a literal and figurative shadow over his industry for almost 50 years.

Born in July 1935 in Saint John, New Brunswick, he was a radio news reporter in his youth and graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in engineering.
But it was not long before the acting bug took hold, prompting him to leave his native Canada and travel to London in 1957.

England's men will host Samoa in a two-match series later this year - meeting for the first time since their dramatic World Cup semi-final.

The first Test will take place at Wigan's Brick Community Stadium - formerly DW Stadium - on Sunday, 27 October, with the second at AMT Headingley in Leeds on Saturday, 2 November (both 14:30 GMT).

It will be Samoa's first Test series in England, and their first visit to the country since knocking the hosts out of the World Cup with a 27-26 golden-point victory in November 2022.

A court in Florence has reconvicted Amanda Knox for slander, years after she was acquitted of murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007.
Ms Knox will not go to prison as she has already served four years for the murder, for which she was originally convicted.
At the time she was also convicted of slander for blaming the murder on local bar owner Patrick Lumumba during police interrogation, but that conviction was quashed last year and a retrial ordered.

The Conservatives have promised to raise the tax-free pension allowance via a "Triple Lock Plus" if they win the general election.
Under the plans, the personal allowance for pensioners will increase at least 2.5% or in line with the highest of earnings or inflation.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the scheme "shows we are on the side of pensioners," who the Tories say will save £275 by 2030.

A music festival that faced closing down for good says it has been "saved" by an online funding campaign.
Inglefest, which is held in Wickwar, South Gloucestershire, had been struggling with rising costs and cancelled this year's event.
But donations from the public mean it has now hit a £10,000 funding target.
"You have ALL collectively saved Inglefest," said co-organiser Dom Mosley.
Posting on Facebook, he thanked fundraisers for their help.
"You have achieved something genuinely incredible, and it’s an amazing story amongst the backdrop of other festivals falling to the current climate.
