Braiding has always lived within our cultural memory.
We draw from what once was - from the braids of those before us.

In our atelier, each fiber bends, repeats, remembers.
The hand moves rupture, as though guided by a path long traced.

At Aseho, these braids are translated into forms shaped for the present, becoming our visual signature.

From January 23–29, we welcome you to a curated moment by Maison Pyramides, to meet our Living Archives.

Pieces that carry the trace of the hand,
and keep a lineage of gestures alive.

A moment, a meeting,
between those who make,
and those who recognize the beauty of slow time.

Braids speak without words. In Malagasy culture, braids are a silent language, a coded system read by an entire village. They tell of age, status, and life’s passages. Learned from childhood and passed from mother to daughter, braiding has always been a privileged time for intimacy and transmission.

The story of the Zafimaniry, a Malagasy highland people of the Betsileo ethnic group, renowned for their UNESCO-recognized wood carving tradition, is not only carved into wood; it is braided into hair. Braids are living threads of their collective memory, worn on women’s and men’s heads. In this society, seventeen distinct styles are counted, each carrying a precise meaning and usage.

Through the exhibition Zafimaniry Doria by , dedicated to The Land of the Mist, we invite you to discover these Zafimaniry braided styles, revealed alongside precious works that tell the story of a culture that resists, adapts, and continues to shine.

In Madagascar, raffia moves from the raffia palm to the hand, from hand to form, binding material, maker, and culture.

As it enters everyday life through use and through art, it carries patience, care, and resourcefulness.

Through repeated gestures, the fiber holds continuity not as memory alone, but as a practice through which culture is lived, renewed, and carried forward.

A tribute to the Betsimisaraka kingdom on Madagascar’s east coast, KARA rises from the rounded form of an ancestral vase and is crocheted in natural raffia with patient, deliberate precision.
Its signature lives in the handle, where two strong raffia cords are worked into a demanding, rhythmic braid that shapes KARA’s silhouette.
This braid anchors the piece and carries a story of heritage, resilience, and the mastery of skilled hands.
