✨ Erasmus+ Staff Mobility in Digital Weaving ✨

What an inspiring experience to take part in this Erasmus+ mobility together with two amazing colleagues from the Fashion Department at MCAST! 🤍

At VEVFT, we explored the world of digital jacquard weaving, from image-to-weave translation and yarn experimentation to creating original woven pieces using innovative techniques. We also visited Tronrud Engineering to gain a deeper understanding of the technology behind the TC-2 digital jacquard loom.

This experience has given us new skills, fresh ideas, and plenty of inspiration that we are excited to bring back to our students. We are confident that this knowledge will further enrich the Fashion Department at MCAST and open new creative possibilities for the future.

Grateful for this opportunity to learn, create, and collaborate internationally. 🧵✨🌍

INDIA × NATURAL DYES × LEARNING BY DOING

From madder reds to indigo blues, India has been colouring cloth with nature for centuries.

Being immersed in the world of natural dyeing, learning the stories, techniques and hands-on processes behind each shade, has been an inspiring journey of slowing down, reconnecting with craft, and understanding sustainability in its truest form.

This journey reminded me that every colour has a story, and every fabric carries culture. 🤍

Grateful for the experience, the knowledge, and the beautiful imperfections that come with working with nature.

Another experience, another skill.

Learning the art of silk painting in Florence, where colour flows, creativity breathes, and every brushstroke feels like a love letter to Italian craftsmanship.

Art, history and slow moments in the city of dreams 🇮🇹🎨

For a long time, we were quiet.
Not absent, just deeply immersed in creating.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been travelling, learning, experimenting and shaping the future of Maria Cutajar in ways we weren’t ready to share… until now.

One of the most transformative chapters of our journey took us to Bagru, India the heart of traditional hand block printing.
Here, we worked with natural dyes and traditional mordants, learning directly from master artisans whose craft has been passed down through generations.

Every fabric taught us patience.
Every print honoured imperfection, the beauty of something truly handmade.

This was more than a visit.
It was a creative awakening.
A return to slow fashion, ethical production and meaningful design.

We’re finally ready to share what has been shaping us quietly, and this is only the beginning.

Welcome to the new chapter of Maria Cutajar.
Rooted in craft. Guided by intention. Created with soul.

From concept to stage ✨

This costume began as hand-drawn sketches, evolved through pattern cutting, and digital textile design, and finally came to life through precision sewing and fitting.
Every pleat, seam, and printed word was intentionally placed to move with the dancer and respond to light, motion, and emotion on stage.

A reminder that costume is not just what you wear, it’s what you perform in.

Being part of Moveo’s intimate duet at Premju għall-Arti was a deeply meaningful experience for me as a costume designer.

Working alongside the live piano composition of , the sensitive choreography of , and the powerful performances of and , I was given the opportunity to translate emotion, sound and movement into fabric, texture and form.

The costume design was conceived as an extension of the choreography allowing the garments to move, breathe and respond to the dancers’ bodies, becoming part of the visual poetry unfolding in the space. Every fold, line and fabric choice was shaped to support the narrative and to honour the vulnerability and strength within the duet.

This collaboration became a quiet dialogue between bodies, sound and material, a celebration of contemporary Maltese artistry expressed through multiple creative voices.

Heartfelt thanks to Arts Council Malta for providing a platform that truly honours collaboration, craftsmanship and creative exchange.
