Nobody tells you about the shoes.
You know what nobody tells you about becoming a mum?
Everyone talks about the sleepless nights.
The tantrums in the cereal aisle.
The endless โMummy, carry me.โ
But nobody talks about the shoes.
Stay with me.
Last Saturday, my friend Priya โ a marketing executive and mum to a very energetic two-year-old named A***n โ finally decided she was going to have a proper day out.
Hair done.
Favourite earrings.
A freshly ironed linen set.
The whole look.
She slipped into her favourite sandals โ the pair she bought from a department store after a very convincing promoter smiled and said,
โThe leather will soften after a few wears. Trust me.โ
She believed it.
Weโve all believed it.
By lunchtime, A***n was on one hip.
Her tote bag was on the other.
And the sandals were in her hands.
She ended up walking barefoot across Pavilionโs car park because her heels simply couldnโt take another step.
The beautiful outfit.
The carefully chosen accessories.
The perfectly planned day.
None of it mattered anymore.
All anyone noticed was the limp.
Weโve all been Priya.
Maybe not barefoot in a car park.
But weโve all worn shoes that looked beautiful in the mirrorโฆ then spent the rest of the day counting every painful step.
Weโve smiled through brunch.
Walked through shopping malls.
Queued for coffee.
Carried our children.
Taken family photos.
All while secretly wishing we could take our shoes off.
The truth is, weekends in Malaysia are never just โa quick outing.โ
A short trip to the mall somehow turns into six hours.
Lunch becomes coffee.
Coffee becomes grocery shopping.
One last stop somehow becomes five.
Before you know it, youโve walked thousands of steps without even realising it.
Thatโs exactly why BE ME caught my attention.
Not because it looked fashionable.
Not because it promised comfort.
But because it felt like someone had actually designed a shoe for women who live real lives.
Women who are constantly moving.
Constantly carrying.
Constantly doing more than they planned.
Soft premium leather that feels comfortable from the very first wear.
A cloud-cushion sole that keeps every step feeling light.
Adjustable straps that welcome different foot shapes instead of fighting them.
Because comfort shouldnโt mean sacrificing elegance.
And elegance should never come at the expense of your feet.
Imagine spending an afternoon at Pavilion.
A family weekend in Melaka.
A full day at Sunway Pyramid.
Or simply running errands that somehow take the whole day.
You shouldnโt be thinking about your shoes.
You should be laughing.
Taking photos.
Making memories.
Thatโs what good shoes do.
They donโt demand attention.
They quietly make everything else feel easier.
So Soft, Youโll Forget Youโre Wearing Them.
My Shoes. My Way.
Two weeks later, Priya bought herself a pair.
Last Sunday, she sent me a voice note from Melaka.
She had walked the entire Jonker Street.
Stopped for cendol.
Carried A***n more times than she could count.
Took dozens of photos.
Then she laughed and said,
โWhy didnโt anyone tell me shoes could actually feel like this?โ
Someone should have told her sooner.
If no one has told you yetโฆ
Consider this me telling you now.
