Kebaya Peranakan Potong Kot Madam Chua's MADAM CHUA OF KAMPUNG CINA, KUALA TERENGGANU HAS ACQUIRED THE DELICATE SKILL IN SEWING THE KEBAYA POTONG KOT HALF A CENTURY AGO

The Kebaya Potong Kot is a very distinguished costume worn by The Females of Peranakan Terengganu, fondly called Mek or Mok Mek for the elderlies, quite similar to The Kebayas of The Straits Settlement. It is believe that during the beginning of late 19th or early 20th century, Kebaya potong kot slowly developed in Terengganu and worn during high status social functions and investiture ceremonies

, Kebaya potong kot stood out over other kebayas featuring lively embroidery of colorful flora motives sew using ordinary machine, no need threaded-fold lines behind, decorated by 3 pieces of kerongsang (brooch) usually made of gold jewelry fastened on the central opening and the fabrics are usually the imported Swiss Rhodia semi transparent material. Kebaya Potong kot sewing is currently near-extinction if the delicate skills are not acquired by the new generation.
