Our president’s car, the NC Miata, also known as the boat.
(She thinks it’s the best car in the world…. How delusional. She probably supports Ferrari too.)
But here’s the real story….
The NC is the only Miata built on a chassis shared with the RX-8. Do you know Mazda originally considered making the NC a rotary roadster during early planning? We could have had the one and only brap brap brap Miata. But eventually, the plan was scraped. Thank god for that! Don’t think the ND would have happened if the NC had a rotary… Anyway, the NC is still the first Miata to switch from the BP engine to the MZR engine. It holds a ‘first” of its own, keeping the “first” legacy alive without ever needing a rotary.
People have been calling the NC heavy, boat, fat boy. But come on… It only weighs less than 1,200kg making it ever so slightly heavier than the ND Miata. How did it become the black sheep of the Miatas?!
“It drives really well! Trust meee!” says our president… but we all know the amount of delusion she has.
So yeah… boat? In all seriousness, we can’t find a boat that comes with a double wishbone in the front, multilink in the rear, great structural rigidity, a rev-happy MZR engine, and a chassis shared with an RX-8.
Onto the geeky stuff, the NC actually has three marks in one generation because making fun of 1 is not enough.
NC1 (2005-2008) (”WHICH IS THE BEST ONE”) (guys, the delusion is strong with this one…)
The OG. Lighter, rawer, and the quirkiest in stock form. Soft suspension from factory but the most “classic Miata” feel of the three.
NC2 (2008-2012)
Mazda tightened everything. Revised shocks, stiffer springs, quicker steering, better throttle response, raised engine redline. This is where the NC stopped being a joke to the internet… or so we thought.
NC3 (2012~)
The facelift of the facelift, final evolution, sharper front end, updated electronics, refined handling.
So yeah, call it a boat all you want, it doesn’t matter. Most importantly our president is very happy with the car. Do go over to her Instagram, to read about her experience owning an NC Miata.
Disclaimer: remember, she's delusional. Be nice.
