I noticed someone selling roasted plantain and yam close to our compound as I came out this afternoon.
That particular spot had been closed for a while, and I saw them clearing the place last week.
I stood there and shouted, “Ah! So this place that I saw them clearing last week was for plantain and yam? It is good o!”
The woman selling there shouted back, “Yes! Are you also living in this compound?”
I nodded.
She said, “Ah! We are now neighbours!”
I smiled and told her, “Congratulations. It’s not easy.”
She said, “Yes o! Today is the first day we started selling here.”
Then I told her congratulations again.
She said, “Thank you! Won’t you come and have a taste?”
I replied, “What did you say?”
She said, “Come and taste our yam and plantain with beans.”
I smiled and said, “Okay, thank you.”
So I went inside and sat down.
She asked me, “You need a full plate abi?”
I asked, “A full plate?”
She said, “Yes.”
I said, “Is it not too much?”
Because inside my mind, this woman said I should come and have a taste of what they were selling. I felt taking a full plate would be too much. And I am a good girl o.
So I asked again, “Is a full plate not too much for tasting?”
She said, “Ah! No o. You no go chop belleful. Full plate is okay.”
I smiled and told her, “Oyanu! God bless you o! Here will favour you people.”
They said, “Amen!”
She prepared the plantain and beans for me and asked, “Should I put fish or pomo?”
I smiled and said, “Ah, just give me like that nah, no need for that one.”
She said, “Why not? You will like our pomo. And our fish is not bad too. So which one?”
I said, “no wahala na. Since it is for tasting... Just put one fish, one pomo, let me taste everything once.”
She said, “Okay, no problem. Neighbour neighbour, you are the type we need around.”
I thanked her and told her again, “Here will favour you people.”
She said, “Amen.”
She served me, I started eating and, honestly, the food was very delicious!
As I was eating, I was giving her my honest review.
I told her, “This food is so good o! However, I think you should reduce the pepper small because some customers might not like too much pepper. Or you can ask each customer the quantity of pepper they want.”
She said, “Yes o, that is true.”
She acknowledged it, and I smiled because, at least, I had already made my little contribution to their new business.
I continued eating and enjoyed the food.
After eating, I thanked her so much. I even started praying for her business again.
I told her, “This place will favour you people. I will tell people about you. Your business will grow. You will prosper here.”
She was saying, “Amen! Amen!”
I stood up to leave, and that was when she asked me:
“Na one full plate you chop abi?”
I said, “Yes. Na one full plate. God bless you again o!”
She said, “That one na ₦3,700.”
Eeehhh! ₦3,700?!
She said, “Yes.”
I asked, “Ah! What do you mean by ₦3,700?”
She said, “The food itself na ₦3,000. Fish na ₦500. Pomo na ₦200. You asked for one fish and one pomo, so everything na ₦3,700.”
Ahhhh!!
I just stood there looking at her...
.. but she said I should come and have a taste of what they are selling.”
Which one come be ₦3,700 again?
Which day them begin collect money to taste food? 😭
