The handkerchief skirt.

Easy beginners project.
You would need minimum 2 yards of fabric especially yard edge of 60 inches.

Measurements required--
🧵Waist
🧵Skirt lenght.

It's a full circle skirt. Radius is Waist /6.28..
6.28 is standard.

Lenght of fabric on fold is your radius + skirt lenght + hem allowance. Also consider your your waistband.

Fabric is folded into 4 .

Your final result =4 equal parts (a perfect square)

If you want to use an elastic waistband, your radius will be your Hip/6.28.

The ill fit these bulky seam allowance gives to your finished garment ehhhhhhh,
na you go testify when you make a U-turn.

*12 INACCURATE MEASUREMENT*

This is the genesis of fitting issues. You go adjust tire.

Have you not heard?? "Measure twice, Cut once."
Watch this space for tips on how to take accurate measurements.

*13 SEWING TOO FAST*
Slow down! You can't become an expert in a fortnight. Work at your pace. Be mindful of details.

Follow the standard operating procedure. If you want to be fast, you will skip processes (processes that are meant to translate to quality).

*14 URGENCY*
Leave urgent work fessooo. Don't try to prove a point. Leave urgent work for those who have built capacity.

The fact is, beginners and urgent work na 5 & 6. The blood dey hot, everywhere fresh energy dey high 😆😆.

Don't ignore your health, no one is irreplaceable.

If you must work expressly, add it to your price, charge for it. E get why ooo

*15 NOT READING YOUR MEASUREMENTS PROPERLY*
If you measured 40.75 inches, stick to it. Don't approximate.

"Your tailor isn't expensive... you just don't know what quality costs."

Before you call a tailor "too expensive," ask yourself this:

Are you paying for "cut and nail"? 😆 "Nor be just to cut am, you join am together"
Is dat what you actually want?? You sef talk true!

You're paying for years of practice, countless mistakes which has elevated craftsmanship for the next job, sleepless nights, electricity, quality tools, pattern drafting, fittings, precision, finishing, and the ability to turn flat fabric into something that fits your body beautifully.

Anyone can join two pieces of fabric together.

Not everyone can create a garment that sits perfectly on your body, has clean finishing inside and out, lasts for years, and makes people stop to ask, "Who made your outfit?"

The cheapest option often becomes the most expensive when you have to remake the outfit because of poor fitting, uneven stitching, or bad finishing.

Quality is an investment, not an expense!

Shebi you would rather pay ₦80,000 once for excellent craftsmanship or pay ₦20,000 for an outfit that made you grumpy

Madam your price is too high."

It's a common sentence used by clients searching for the cheapest service regardless of value.

But what should you do when a client says your price is too high?

Here are a few things that has helped me:

☑️ Don't become defensive.
Arguing with a client rarely changes their mind. Nor shout, nor para, don't be tempted to loose your cool. Just calm down!😆😆

☑️ Don't rush to reduce your price.
The moment you slash your price effortlessly, you send the message that your original price wasn't justified. It's a signal that you prices can always be battered.

☑️ Ask questions.
You can politely ask, "What's your budget?" Their answer will tell you if they genuinely want value or they're simply looking for the cheapest option.

☑️ Explain your value—not just your price.
Briefly explain what your fee covers: quality finishing, proper fitting, durability, timely delivery, and attention to detail etc

A value oriented client will pay when they understand what they're paying for.

Go back and read through the highlights of what you should pinpoint. E get why.

You don't have to inflate the cost of sewing supply although some clients nor like truth. They would rather you earn nothing but use the most expensive stuff on their outfit.

☑️ Offer substitute/ option instead
If the client's budget is lower, suggest a simpler style, fewer design details, or a different fabric requirement instead of underpricing your work.

☑️ Be willing to let some job/order go.
Embracing every order by reducing your price can leave you overworked and underpaid.

Remember, there's a distinct line between being expensive and being valuable.

The goal isn't to be the cheapest tailor in town.

The goal is to give clients a quality outfit that makes them say, "It was worth every naira."
