🌙 Night View at the Farm 🐟

Feeding time doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Here’s a glimpse of the farm under the night sky as the fish come alive for their evening meal.

There’s nothing more satisfying than watching healthy catfish rush to the surface at feeding time. Every splash is a reminder that consistency, patience, and proper management are paying off.

Fish farming isn’t just about throwing feed into the pond—it’s about maintaining good water quality, feeding the right quantity at the right time, and monitoring the fish closely every day. These little daily routines make a big difference in their growth.

The journey continues, one feeding at a time. Bigger, healthier fish are the goal, and we’re getting there!

TALKING ABOUT EARTHEN POND TODAY

An earthen pond is a fish pond dug directly into the ground, usually in an area with clay soil , loamy soil or water logged areas that can hold water well. It is one of the most common pond types used for catfish farming in Nigeria because it closely resembles the fish’s natural habitat. Advantages of an Earthen Pond

Advantages of an Earthen pond

* Fish generally grow faster because the environment is more natural.
* Lower construction and maintenance costs compared to many other pond types.
* Large stocking capacity.
* Natural organisms such as worms and plankton can supplement fish feed, helping reduce feeding costs.(you still need to feed them o, especially when there is a large quantities of fish)
*temperature stability, soil and water mass can reduce sudden temperature changes
* Better water quality stability when properly managed.

Disadvantages of an Earthen Pond

* Flooding during heavy rains can cause fish to escape.
* Predators and thieves can be a problem if the pond is not secured.
* Harvesting and sorting fish are more difficult than in concrete ponds.
* Requires suitable clay soil and a reliable water source.
* Pond walls may collapse if the soil is too sandy or poorly constructed.

Ideal Specifications for Catfish

* Water depth: about 1–1.5 meters.
* Good drainage outlet.
* Strong embankments to prevent flooding.
* Netting around or above the pond to keep out predators.

He said they’re not full and I tell him no they are actually full you are just being too emotional 😂
So now I want you all to be the judge by watching the video and reading the write up

*How do you know when your catfish are full?*

One of the most important things in fish farming is knowing when to stop feeding. Hungry catfish will rush to the feed and eat aggressively, but once they are full:

✅ They stop rushing for the feed.
✅ They become less active around the feeding spot.
✅ Feed starts remaining uneaten on the water.
✅ Some fish begin to swim away.

As fish farmers, overfeeding should be avoided because leftover feed can spoil the water and affect the health and growth of our fish.

A simple rule I follow: Feed only what your fish can finish within 10–15 minutes.

Healthy feeding = Healthy fish = Better profits! 🐟💙

Planting some fruits(guava and German mango) on the farm, hope it grows well

04/07/2026

Closed from work late that day but then I still need to feed them and let me tell you some benefits of feeding at night:

Feeding catfish at night can actually be very beneficial because catfish are naturally more active in the evening and at night.

Here are some benefits of night feeding:

* Better appetite: Catfish tend to eat more actively at night.
* Reduced stress: Cooler temperatures at night make the fish more comfortable, especially during hot weather.
* Less feed waste: Fish may consume feed more efficiently, reducing wastage.
* Faster growth: When combined with proper management, night feeding can improve growth rates.

However, keep these things in mind:

* Ensure your pond has enough dissolved oxygen. Fish consume more oxygen at night, so avoid overfeeding.
* Feed only the amount your fish can finish within 15–20 minutes.
* If possible, use a light around the pond so you can observe the fish while feeding.
* For fish around 2 months old, you can split the daily feed into two or three meals, with one meal given in the evening or at night.

Hope you find this helpful and can emulate to see the difference 😁
