And I love it. Every bit of it.
Because our celebrities, our musicians, our filmmakers are doing something real, they’re putting Yoruba where people can’t ignore it.
But let me say the thing we keep tiptoeing around:
Visibility is not prestige.
Yoruba can trend on Twitter and still be the language parents whisper at home because they don’t want their children to “sound local.”
Yoruba can soundtrack the hottest albums and still be the subject a student rushes through to focus on “more important” ones.
That gap, between being seen and being valued, that’s the prestige problem.
And no campaign fixes it.
What fixes it is you speaking Yoruba in that meeting without apologising.
Your child reciting Yoruba poetry and being applauded, not pitied.
Fluency being treated as an asset, not an accident of birth.
The entertainment industry is opening doors. 🙌🏾
Now we need to walk through them — with our full chests.
