From Zero Experience to Creating Amazing Trousers in Just One Month! 🎉✂️

A practical test was given to one of my students to evaluate her understanding of trouser construction, and she completely impressed me!

In just one month of training, she confidently made:
✅ Trousers with a zipper fly
✅ Cargo pants with stylish pockets
✅ A pair of joggers

The incredible part? She had never sewn before enrolling at Limmary Fashion School.

Student Practical Work: Shawl Collar

Title

Construction of a Shawl Collar

Aim

To develop the skills required to draft, cut, and construct a shawl collar with a neat and professional finish.

Materials and Tools

* Fabric
* Interfacing
* Matching thread
* Sewing machine
* Scissors
* Measuring tape
* Tailor’s chalk
* Pins
* Iron and ironing board

Procedure

1. Draft the shawl collar pattern according to the garment neckline.
2. Cut the fabric and interfacing pieces.
3. Fuse the interfacing to the collar where required.
4. Stitch the collar pieces together and trim the seams.
5. Turn the collar to the right side and press neatly.
6. Attach the collar to the garment neckline.
7. Understitch and topstitch where necessary.
8. Give the finished collar a final press for a smooth appearance.

Evaluation

The shawl collar was successfully constructed with smooth curves, accurate stitching, and a neat finish. The practical improved my understanding of collar construction techniques and enhanced my garment-making skills.

Conclusion

This practical provided valuable experience in constructing a shawl collar and reinforced the importance of accuracy, proper pressing, and careful finishing in garment construction.
