I never for once saw myself doing this. I studied Economics — a far cry from sustainability. In 2021, I stumbled upon an opportunity when I worked for a sustainability consultant and learned more about sustainability and climate change. It dawned on me that I could play my part in reducing the effect of carbon emissions gotten from burning textile waste.
As someone who learned fashion design in 2018 while I was in 200 level, I knew that fashion designer could keep leftover fabrics for years. I decided that my impact would start from home —my fellow fashion designers.
I walked into tailoring shops and fashion houses and began educating them about textile waste and it's effect. Some listened. They changed and began giving me their leftover fabrics.
This birthed what you see today. What began as hair accessories, scrunchies, and headbands has evolved into a full product range: tote bags, laptop bags, iPad sleeves, souvenir bags, jewellery, and accessories for both women and men. Every product is made from fabric that would otherwise have been waste.
