2022 business year is closing out as we welcome 2023

I have this to say.

Recently I discovered something interesting about some designers.

Sometimes I ask someone, who is your mentor? They will look at me blank. Like ….
« What is this woman talking about?

I can sew perfectly and I have my shop and sewing machines, what do I need a mentor for? »

Many are so gifted and can just about anything!
However, it’s so amazing that many of them are where they are today because of
1. Lack of understanding of Business side of fashion
2. Fear of responsibility
3. Lack of good leadership
4. Lack of self confidence
5. Financial illiteracy (not understanding cash-flow)
6. No
7. Not innovative and
8. Family/traditional/cultural ties
9. Lack of self development and
10. No visibility

At first I used to think that it’s because they cannot afford to set up their businesses alone, because some will go about asking for assistance to buy a machine or rent a shop to start up, but recently I observed that even if you build a multibillion naira factory and hand over the key to them to run, the place will shut down in no time.
Because of the list above.

It May not be because they are lazy, or they feel since it’s another persons business they can’t do much, it’s just that one or more items on the list above applies to them.

I see so many talented who have refused to get up from their sewing machine, because they can’t imagine running a fashion business !! Yes read that again.

Or else how do you explain someone who is moving from one fashion house to another looking for who will pay higher.
Frustrating one fashion house owner by cutting and abandoning client !!

How do you explain a who cannot service sewing machine but expects the owner of the shop to pay someone else to do it. Yet he/she gets full pay.
