EPISODE 3.
That weekend, Kambili traveled back to Enugu to see her parents.
Her mother was cooking in the kitchen, humming a gospel song.
Her father was reading the Bible in the sitting room. Everything felt normal — too normal for the storm she was about to bring.
After dinner, she asked them to sit down.
“I need to tell you something,” she began. Her voice was shaking, but she didn’t stop. “I am pregnant.”
Silence.
Her father’s face dropped. Her mother froze.
Her father’s voice was cold. “You said you were still a virgin.”
“I am,” she said. “I never had s*x. But... I made a mistake. Jekwu and I… we touched. It happened during ovulation.”
Her mother covered her mouth with her hands. Her father stood up and paced the room.
“You have brought shame to this family!” he shouted. “What will the church say? What will people say?”
Tears filled Kambili’s eyes. “I know I made a mistake, but I am not lying.
"I need your help, not judgment.”
Her father walked away into his room.
Her mother finally spoke. Kambili, “Motherhood is a very serious commitment, this will change your entire life. You are too young for this, she bursted into tears”.
Kambili hugged her and they cried together..

Weeks passed.
The gossip in school started.
Some students called her names. Some church leaders asked her to step down from the choir.
But others, surprisingly stood by her.
One lecturer pulled her aside and said, “You are brave, don’t let shame bury your future.”
She thought about abĂłrtĂon.
Then adoption.
Then keeping the baby.
One night, she stood in front of a mirror, hand over her small baby bump. “I didn’t plan for you,” she whispered. “But maybe the universe did.”
