BASIC METHODS OF INSERTING BONInG TO YOUR DRESS.

We have different ways of attaching boning to dresses, but the most common one is inserted in a casing or sewn directly to the material.

If u don't know what boning is please check my previous post on my page.

HERE ARE A FEW EXAMPLES

APPLY A CASING. Use firm fabric for the installation method, and sew the casing to the fabric along both edges, creating a Chanel wide enough for the boning to pass through and narrow enough to avoid twisting in the casing.

SEW DIRECTLY TO THE FABRIC: Rigilene is the only boning you can sew directly to the fabric, it has a border on each edge to sew through, when sewing it's advisable you sew flat however it can be sewed on an angle from the top
edges of a strapless dress to the waistline that way it gives a beautiful structure and fitness the body.

DID YOU KNOW.

BONING 💯

The word boning is refers to something that behaves like bone inside our body, giving the garment a structure and fitness.
Boning is long, flat and stiff and is inserted in a dress.
It's is used in a wedding dress , evening wears, bras, corset, bags nd purse.

So lets talk about different types of boning that are common and used by all fashion designers.

COMMON TYPES OF BONING .

RIGILENE BONING: lights weight ND flexible plastic and it's 1/2 wide , it's is able to flex around the curve of a surpportive garment.
Felxible enough to wear with comfort, regilene boning can be used for a corset , bustier, strapless garment and for bust caging.

STEEL BONING: nylon coated spring steel and is 1/2 or 1/4 wide , it is very rigid and strong and can b bent in one direction to make a curve .

This is perfect for corset or custume and should only bw dry cleaned .
When cuts , it's need to have tips to prevent it from poking through casing and orther fabric.

PLASTIC BONING: is transparent in color, can not be sewn but encased and would not work for a waist -reducing corset .
This is perfect for costume or garment that requires very light surpport and can withstand machine or hand washing, when cut this boning does not require tips.

When using boning be sure to know what types ND seize suits the project you are working on.
