When all else fails, pick up a book.

After three attempts at learning tie-dye, messing up on my first real try was humbling. You’d think watching people do this long enough would magically transfer their skills to me.

For my most recent attempt, I interned at a tie-dye factory for six months, but funnily enough, I never touched the dye. I couldn’t stand the way it stained hands and the smell of hydrosulfite? Absolutely unbearable. But if there’s one thing I did, it was watch and ask questions.

Then, in December 2024, I wanted to gift someone an adire fabric. I checked the price and had to ask myself, after all the time and resources I’ve spent trying to learn this craft, will I still go out and pay someone else to make it for me?

The funny thing is, I actually love making the patterns. So, I decided to go back to it, but this time, at my own pace.
