Kidnapping school children is a national emergency. Closing schools may temporarily reduce exposure, but it does not solve the underlying problem. If insecurity continues, what happens when schools eventually reopen?
Nigeria needs decisive action:
• Immediate nationwide intelligence-led operations to locate kidnapped children. • Deployment of advanced surveillance technology, drones, aircraft, and coordinated security teams to identify criminal hideouts. • Better protection for schools, especially in vulnerable communities. • Stronger intelligence gathering and collaboration between security agencies. • Faster prosecution of kidnappers and those who sponsor criminal activities. • Greater accountability from elected officials at all levels of government. • Peaceful civic engagement by citizens demanding concrete results and regular updates.
Every child deserves to learn without fear. The focus should not only be on closing schools but on making Nigeria safe enough for every child to attend school safely.
