Cowrie Clog…..!!!!

While I was racking my head for the next side project to work on, I stumbled upon the cowrie shell. While that piece has been a mainstay accessory across different styles and mediums in African fashion, I wondered what the piece will look like as a statement piece.

Not as an accessory as usual, but as the main character of the design. At close inspection, I realized the cowrie has an interesting silhouette, which is similar to organic shaped footwear concept. My intention was to mimic the cowrie shell as a footwear concept. Thereby, not over exaggerating its form, or adding elements that wouldn’t originally be on the shell.

My aim is to make people see a different perspective of the cowrie shell. That it could be the main character of a fashion piece.

I had fun creating this, and I can’t wait to see what the physical version will look like…

Leaf 🍃 Clog….

Project development update.

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve experimented with different iteration of the leaf 🍃 clog. We’ve experimented with different iterations along materials, colors, and anatomical interpretation of the leaf shape.

It’s been an enlightening and fun experience, as these different experimentations has helped defined the direction for the project…

Work so far….

I’ve been iterating on this particular project for couple of weeks, pending when the soleplate for the boot concept will be completed.

It’s great to see what the outcome of this design development is. After much contemplation, I’ve decided to put up the raw version of the project, to show the process of design development.

I can’t wait to show what the finished version looks like. I’m excited to see how the project develops..

In a rare moment on twitter scrolling, I came across this incredible image.

Couple of weeks ago, I saw a picture of a caterpillar 🐛 and I immediately thought that would make a good slide concept.

Especially with the grooves, bumps, and tiny bumps that forms the base of the skin. All I was seeing was a slide and nothing else.

I did went ahead with designing a slide concept with the caterpillar 🐛 as the design reference. It was challenging, but it was very fun 🤩..

Modular P….

A complete showcase of the detachable clog concept. Stems from the creating a functional slip on concept, which is modeled and designed to enhance style and functionality.

It also comes with the cage. So, on the days you do not feel like wearing just the slip on, you can wear it with the cage… The cage takes structural inspiration from the foot anatomy. From how the tendon bands are arranged, to the placement of the toes….

Visualized in 4 different color schemes, which is your favorite?

It’s a personal project, and as usual, it was an interesting project that pushed the limitations of anatomy inspired design.
