Don't wait until you get a jacket order before you learn how to make a professional jacket.

That is when panic starts. 😂

The customer has brought an expensive fabric.
She wants a blazer.
She wants a beautiful lapel.
And you're there thinking, How am I going to do this one now?😩

Please, don't put yourself through that.

Learn before the order comes.

Practice. Make samples. Make mistakes while you are learning. Understand the pattern, fitting, sleeves, lapels, pockets and finishing.

So when that big jacket order finally comes, you're not afraid of it.

We finally completed our neckline variations in class today.

And this is one of the three methods of achieving a cowl neckline that I taught my beginner student.
I really love how my student is getting to understand that there are different ways to achieve the same design.

We started with the basics, and now she can look at a neckline and understand how to create it on her own.

JACKET MAKING IS NOT HARD.

What makes it look hard is when you don't understand the foundation.

A well-fitted jacket is not magic. There are steps to it.

You need to understand the pattern, how to take body measurements , how to draft the sleeve, how to construct the collar and lapel, how to handle interfacing, and how to put everything together properly.

Once you understand these things, jacket making becomes much easier.

The problem is that many people want to jump straight into making beautiful jackets without first understanding the basics.

Learn the right way and jacket making is not as difficult as you think.

I love clothes that make me look good without making me uncomfortable.

The kind of dress I can wear all day without complaining 😍

I love everything about this dress, but do you know what I love the most?

How comfortable it is.

Sometimes as fashion designers, we get so focused on making a garment look beautiful that we forget one very important thing:

The person wearing it has to LIVE in it.

I wanted something stylish, but I also wanted to be able to sit, walk, move around and go about my day without constantly adjusting my dress.

And this dress delivered! ❤️

The flare gives me room to move, the waist gives it just enough shape, and the fabric makes it feel easy and relaxed.

This is my kind of fashion:

Beautiful. Comfortable. Practical.

Because looking good shouldn't have to feel like punishment. 😂

Today’s class was about drafting different types of necklines.

This is one of those things that may look simple until you actually sit down to draft it.

My student learnt how to manipulate the basic bodice to create different neckline styles and, more importantly, how to do it correctly.

When you understand your basic pattern, you can create so many different styles from it.

We are taking it one topic at a time and building a strong foundation.

One of the things I encourage my students to do is SEW FOR OTHERS. ❤️

Because fashion design is not only about knowing how to sew clothes for yourself.

You need to learn how to take someone else’s measurements, understand their body, interpret their preferences, and turn an idea into a garment that fits and flatters them.

Look at this beautiful peplum topmy student made for her.

She didn't just practise a technique.

She created for another person.

And that experience teaches you things that sewing only for yourself may never teach you.

Every client is different.

Every body is different.

Every fitting teaches you something new.

Dear fashion student, don't always wait until you feel ready before you start sewing for others.

The more you practise on different body types, the better you become at understanding fit, measurements, pattern adjustments and garment construction.

Growth is a process. Don't skip the process.

This is what happens when a student truly understands the basics.

After teaching her different types of flares, sleeve variations, dart manipulation, and neckline designs, I gave her an assignment:

Create a style that combines the techniques you have learned.

And this is what she came up with. ❤️

She didn't just copy a design.

She had to think, combine techniques, make design decisions, and bring her own idea to life.

This is exactly why I always say:

Don't rush through your beginner training.

There is a lot to learn at the beginner level, and these fundamentals will continue to show up in more advanced designs.

From dart manipulation to sleeve design, neckline variations and flare techniques, every lesson is building her ability to create—not just reproduce.
