Complementary feeding does not mean your baby would stop or reduce taking breastmilk or formulas.

They would still take them in the same quantity or more.

Other foods are meant to complement them and not to replace them completely except when you are ready to wean your baby.

No matter what you do or say, expect that every once in a while your baby will have some physical contact with strangers. So if a friendly neighbor tests your child’s grasp on his finger before you can stop the transaction, just pull out a diaper wipe and discreetly wash off baby’s hands.

And be sure to wash your own hands after spending time outdoors and before handling your baby. Germs from outsiders (and from door handles or shopping carts) can easily be spread from your hands to your baby.

Once she is born, your baby won’t be able to regulate her own body temperature - she will lose heat easily but cannot shiver or rely on muscle movement to generate heat.

Full-term babies are born with a tailor-made fuel supply of brown fat around their neck, upper chest, and kidneys. This is especially good at generating heat but it soon runs out, so keeping your baby warm after birth is a priority.

Holding her close against your body as soon as she is born will help her to absorb your body warmth.

Sit down and make yourself comfortable. Make sure that you have enough support in your back.

Draw your knees up and put your baby on your legs and tummy so that he is virtually in a half-sitting position. He will feel more comfortable like this.

Now, hold his arms and pull him up slowly, until he is sitting upright, giving him words of encouragement at the same time, such as telling him what a clever little boy he is.
