Exactly this time in 2018, I packed my bags and left Lagos for Aba. Not because I had everything figured out, but because I believed in myself and the dream I was carrying.
At that time, I couldn’t peddle a sewing machine. I didn’t even know how to read a measuring tape properly. But one thing I was very sure of was that I could make it if I gave myself the chance.
I had just finished university and was waiting for NYSC posting. Like everyone else, I was expected to follow the usual path, but I decided to take a different route and pursue fashion fully.
Being Lagos based, my first thought was to start from Lagos. Later, I changed my mind and chose Aba instead. I’ll share the reason for that decision in another post.
The truth is, I didn’t know anyone in Aba and I had never been there before. I was stepping into a completely new place with just faith and determination. I reached out to a friend, sent money for accommodation, and thankfully, my friend helped me secure a nice apartment at Brass, very close to Abia Poly.
After Christmas and New Year celebrations, I traveled down to Aba to begin the journey. My friend introduced me to several places where I could learn the craft, but one particular place stood out to me. I felt a strong connection there, and that was where everything truly began.
Looking back now, I realize that one decision changed my life. Sometimes, all it takes is the courage to start, even when you don’t have all the answers.
This is just the beginning of the story.
