Ebonyi is trending again.
Marriage is a celebration of honour, not just a gathering.
I know this topic may offend some people, but it needs to be said.
Traditional marriages are not just ordinary events, they are a reflection of our culture, families, and the honour we give to the union being created.
Lately, I have noticed a growing trend where some people from my state, Ebonyi show up for their traditional marriage ceremonies dressed in very casual outfits, sometimes without putting thought into their appearance, and when questioned, the response is always: “they wore what they had.”
But my question is; shouldn’t we make an effort for moments that only happen once in a lifetime even if little?
The Bible says “Marriage should be honoured by all” (Hebrews 13:4). Honour is not only in words, it is also in how we present ourselves, how we celebrate, and how seriously we take the occasion.
This is not about wearing the most expensive outfit or competing with anyone. You don’t need designer clothes to look beautiful. You can dress modestly, neatly, and respectfully with what you have.
Our ancestors understood the importance of appearance during important ceremonies. Dressing well was a sign of respect to the couple, the families, and the tradition.
Let’s stop using “I wore what I had” as an excuse for not putting in effort. Sometimes it’s not about money, it’s about value, preparation, and understanding the importance of the moment.
A traditional marriage deserves the beauty, pride, and honour it carries.
Even this particular lady look so young but that's a topic for another day
