When MJ was 6, he brought home a homework, one look at his book, I got mad, the pictorials on his textbook had me rattled. It was an illustration of a woman and a man “It read, mother in the kitchen cooking, father in the parlor watching TV”
I sat my little man down, I asked him, why is mom the one cooking and dad is watching TV, he said it’s because mommy is a woman, Daddy is a man. Kaiiii! I don’t blame him, it’s the story our African society is telling, I explained to him that this is a dysfunction, cooking isn’t gender based, anyone can do it. It’s best done together sometimes.
Brothers in the house hear this, this image right here has ruined more homes than infidelity, especially in Africa, the woman is so burdened, she grows distant, grows numb, becomes a robot, just going through the motion. The weight of reproductive labor should never be on the shoulders of a woman, even if the man is the one providing; he should get handy at home too, thats one of the ways to bound, helping your woman is a love language too. Ladies also share in the financial burden as much as you can carry, times have changed. You fit kpaii the brother if his hands isnt so strong.
Enough of how our mothers bore it all smiling, don’t subject any woman to this, it’s sacrilegious! Aunty, you kwanu speak up, maka untimely death.
Uncle, don’t live in your own house as though you are a guest that should be served, as the family grows, so should your commitment, many of what the woman is doing that some men claim they can’t do- are all learned abilities, learn to change diapers, learn to properly feed the kids, bath the kids, learn to grocery shop correctly, learn to be very present in the life of your children. Learn it! Don’t do it haphazardly; so she can leave you alone, thats even worst!
Brother, this is even for your own benefit, a wornout woman has no business with romance, you want her to loosen up, help her. If you can afford to bring in extra hands, Oga pay for it, don’t shove it off like it’s a woman’s business to cater for her help.
Parents, let’s change the narrative, in words, but especially in deeds.
