The palmwin tapper and the princess** Episode two;
(The King’s Decree)
Love, like smoke, cannot be hidden forever.
Whispers spread through the village—of a princess who wandered too often beyond the palace walls, and of a palmwine tapper who smiled more than usual.
It was not long before the king heard.
The palace grew heavy with tension. Guards were posted, and Adanna was summoned.
“You forget who you are,” the king said, his voice deep with authority. “You are not meant to walk among them as equal—especially not with a man who climbs trees for a living.”
Adanna stood firm, though her heart trembled. “He is more than what he does, father. He is kind. He is good.”
But the king’s face hardened. “Good is not enough. A princess does not marry poverty.”
Obinna was summoned next. Standing before the king, barefoot on polished stone, he felt the weight of a world that had never been his.
“You dare reach for what is beyond you,” the king declared. “If you truly believe yourself worthy, then prove it.”
The challenge was harsh and nearly impossible: Obinna was to fill ten large clay pots with the finest palmwine in three days—without help—and present them at the palace. Not just any palmwine, but the rarest, sweetest sap from the oldest trees deep within the forbidden forest.
Failure meant exile.
Success… meant nothing guaranteed.
Yet Obinna accepted.
For love.
The days that followed tested his body and spirit. He climbed until his hands bled, walked until his legs shook, and faced the silent dangers of the forest. Still, he pressed on.
Not for wealth.
Not for pride.
But for her.
