Last night was cold… unusually cold.
The kind of cold that makes your skin tighten even under a blanket.
At exactly 3:17am, my phone buzzed.
No message.
No missed call.
Just… buzzing.
I checked the time and sighed. Maybe network.
Then I heard it.
Knock. Knock.
Slow.
Gentle.
Too polite for that hour.
I froze.
Everyone in this compound sleeps by 10pm.
And the gate is always locked.
The knock came again.
“Please… open the door.”
My heart dropped.
That voice sounded exactly like my younger sister.
The same sister who had traveled two days ago.
I stood up anyway.
As I got closer to the door, the voice changed.
Deeper.
Colder.
“Open it… you already know I’m inside.”
My phone buzzed again.
This time, a message appeared:
“Don’t open the door.
I’m standing right behind you.”
I swear… I felt breathing on my neck.
