AC Milan 1996/97 Third x Franco Baresi 🔴⚫️

One of the darkest kits Lotto ever made, for one of the darkest seasons in Milan’s history.

Blacked out with a pattern you only catch in the light, and the iconic Opel sponsor in red. Simple, but it hits different.

On the pitch it was chaos: the coach was sacked halfway through, Rosenborg knocked them out of the Champions League at the San Siro, and the Rossoneri finished 11th in Serie A.

It was also the final season of Il Capitano. Franco Baresi retired in the summer of 1997, and Milan retired his number 6 with him.

This summer we lost him at 66. With his name on the back and in long sleeve, this one means a little more.

Rest in peace, Franco. Forever number 6 🕊️

FC Twente 2008/9 Away x Blaise Nkufo 🔴⚪️

This beautiful shirt was a tribute to the Arke Stadion, which was expanded & renamed to the current Grolsch Veste at the start of the 2008/9 season.

Diadora saw the vision, and sublimated the stadium onto the front, which worked out perfectly.

The shirt also marks the debut season of English manager Steve McClaren, who went on to win their first Eredivisie title one season later.

With their all time top scorer Blaise Nkufo on the back, and available in long sleeve, you don’t want to miss this one…

Some offices have a football shirt day. At First11 we call that Monday, Tuesday and every other day.✌️

Today was Classic Day, though. Everyone came in wearing their favourite classic shirt, and that led to a lot of arguments at lunch about whose shirt was the best.
