UndercoverOtter Please EMAIL us if you have questions (we do not check FB). Undercover Otter (Yarn & Fibers) is one of the many adventures in my crafty and creative life.

I’m Petra Sielias and as a 34 year old chronical overcrafter I live in a great time and place. My house and home are in Amsterdam the Netherlands and I share my space with my boyfriend (I call him the Beardwife jokingly) and our two cats. My boyfriend is a pillar of support in this adventure and helps me out a lot when it comes to fairs, markets and product development. He is also a huge lover of

fiber arts. He sees fiber addictions not as a hobby, but as a post-apocalyptic survival skill (he is right you know, once those zombies hit, someone needs to knit socks!)

I’ve always loved creativity and art. Drawing, sewing, knitting, painting, ceramics, papercrafts, origami, pergamano, embroidery, crochet, felting, photography, writing, making movies, writing scripts, putting out plays or indulging in whatever new awesome craft has sprung in existence: I’ve pretty much done it all, just to figure out if it was ‘me’. As a fellow crafter you might know how quickly the torrent of materials can swallow up your entire house (and life) and as my skills improved and methods got more refined I started to get questions from other people on how to make certain things or if I would be willing to sell my time, and crafts, to others. This is how I started giving workshops in a multitude of creative subjects and sharing my knowledge with the world as well as learning from other great artisans in the creative field. In the end I’ve always returned to my big loves: Yarn, fibers and fabric. If you can thread it, hook it, sew it or knit it, I love it. I have a soft spot for crochet, embroidery and knitting and in the winter of 2014 I started to dye my own yarn and fibers. My friends soon asked if I would dye yarn for them and that’s how it started. I’ve recently started to add yarn & fiber related haberdasheries to my repertoire like stitch markers, project bags and spindles.

If you live in the EU and want to order anything from me, you have until Sunday at midnight to place your order.

After that, I am temporarily turning off EU shipping while I sort out the mess that is ERP.

I am currently wading through 27 countries with 27 sets of packaging regulations, application forms, reporting requirments, producer responsibility schemes and web portals clearly designed by someone who has the sense of joy and whimsy I would normally associate with a SAW trap...

I’m gonna be real with you:
I have absolutely no idea how this cookie is going to crumble.

I am registering where I need to register, and getting the admin in order. I can not guarantee that I will be able to ship to your country until there is more clarity around this.

There are spreadsheets involved. Numerous spreadsheets. I am a freak in the sheets after all...

Until I know exactly what I’m allowed to send where after the 12th, I would rather cover my ass than fling parcels into the EU and trust the universe.

Luckily, the timing is almost convenient because I’m away doing festivals, so nothing would have shipped for a bit regardless.

There is however a non-zero chance I will sell you yarn in person in Denmark or Germany and then politely ask: 'Can I have the Packaging back?'*

Because apparently this is my life now...

TL;DR
Want Undercover Otter yarn delivered in the EU?
Order before Sunday the 9th of August at midnight.
After that, EU shipping is taking a little bureaucratic holiday while I sort this mess out. Thank you for your patience. 🖤

* I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. I barely know what is happening myself. Please do not use an indie dyer’s Instagram carousel as your source of EU regulatory guidance.

Shipping Break!

Since I will be traveling to Fiberfolk in Denmark and Wollcraft in Germany in the next two weeks, that means a little break in the shipping schedule.

Orders placed before Sunday the 9th of August will be shipped before I leave.
Orders placed after the 9th will be sent out once I am back on August 27th.

So if you were thinking about grabbing a skein or two, and don't want to wait until I'm back, you've got until Sunday to place your order.

If you happen to be in the neighborhood in the next two weeks, please come say hi! I'm looking forward to seeing you in Roskilde and Worms!

Stay Awesome!
Aiden.

Not me, deciding a week before 2 festivals back to back is the best time to finally dye that collection that has been sitting in my brain for the past 2 years....

Nope, not at all.

But seriously, it needed to be done. And it's being done on Spellbound. ❤️

I will take guesses on what inspired these 3 pics. And also reserve the right to completely steal your headcanon if it's better than what I cobbled up 😉

How Can I Hurt You? A multitude of purples and some hot toxic green for good measure.

I know, I've been MIA for a while, but trust me, I have really good reasons.

Like having to dye delicious colorways such as the one in this picture, sweating my ass off in the studio, and prepping for the upcoming festivals.

It's hell on the algorithm, and I know there's probably only 3 people that will see this, but that's okay.

I LOVE ALL 3 OF YOU!

❤️

Wake up babe! New exciting shipping and duty shenanigans for sending your stuff to the US just dropped 🤡

TLDR: if you ship to the US, make sure you've got the correct 10-digit HS codes, Country of Origin, Product descriptions and material contents configured for your products.

Just to be clear: I am not an expert, nor should my advice be taen as truth. Always do your own checks when it comes your business, legal requirements for your country, etc.

Heads Up! The Neon Nightmares Halloween Boxes with the 'extra trinkets and treasures' options are almost gone 👻

Since I want to make sure I've got all the tchatchkis sorted in time, there is a maximum on those variants.

So if you were looking for a Yarn or Fiber box WITH the extras included, now is the time to place your order 😉

Every box comes with 5 full skeins or braids of delicious neon nightmarish yarn or fiber, and I've got a few different yarn base and fiber options for you to pick from.

Today is Non-Binary People’s Day.

I’m non-binary every day, not just when it is convenient, visible, or easy for other people to understand. That means navigating the daily fallout of a society built around rigid binaries, patriarchy, cisnormativity, and xenophobia.

Existing outside the boxes people try to force us into is not confusion. It is not a phase. It is not a debate.

We are here. We have always been here. And we deserve more than tolerance. We deserve safety, dignity, joy, and the freedom to exist without constantly having to explain or defend ourselves.

Happy Non-Binary People’s Day to my fellow non-binary people, the wider q***r community, and every ally standing beside us.
To everyone else: ghosted.

It’s no secret that I love funky, vibrant colors and unexpected combinations, but I’m also a massive sucker for a really good semi-solid yarn.

When I first started dyeing yarn, I focused on getting semi-solids right before venturing into things like speckles.

Dyeing a semi-solid as evenly as possible is not easy, and honestly, I love the subtle variations that happen when the dye grabs onto some parts of the fiber faster than others. That little bit of movement is what makes hand-dyed semi-solids so special.

Shown here, from top to bottom:

Pom Blossom
Nug
Lavinia
Bone-Raker
Rosemary

All dyed on Squirm.

Honestly, this combination is begging to become some kind of neon pastel color-blocked awesomeness.

Drop your pattern suggestions in the comments!
