Mijn naam is Tosca Otten, oprichtster en ontwerpster van Teder.world. Ik lanceer met enige enthousiaste nervositeit (ik ben altijd onafhankelijk geweest) deze crowdfunding campagne via CrowdAboutNow. Ik heb besloten te gaan crowdfunden omdat ik met Teder grootse ambities heb en dit samen met jullie wil doen.

Teder heeft twee ambitieuze doelstellingen voor ogen:
⭐ Het perfectioneren van de ideale garderobe voor de moderne en ambitieuze vrouw.
⭐ Het aanbreken van markten die het sterkste aansluiten, zoals bijvoorbeeld Shanghai en Seoul.

Om deze doelstellingen te behalen zoek ik 35 man die elk €1000 investeren.

My name is Tosca Otten, founder and designer at Teder.world. With slightly nervous enthusiasm (I've always been independent) I'm launching this crowdfunding campaign at CrowdAboutNow. I've decided to go crowdfunding because I have big ambitions for Teder and want to grow this brand together with you.

Teder has two ambitious goals for the coming period:
⭐ Completing the ideal wardrobe for the modern and ambitious woman.

New headshots!

New brand, new headshots. A few months ago I had the pleasure to work with a super pregnant , who I’ve known for ages.

Sev has even modelled for me in my second year at fashion studies :) she introduced me to the wonderful who happened to have grown up in the same village as I did!

I prefer not to be in front of the camera myself, but with these women (plus Sev’s super adorable dog) it was a little party.

Teder is here.

I can FINALLY share it! I’ve worked really really hard on a new brand. When Covid arrived, it was the perfect time to rethink TOS gallery. But, during this period I came to the realization that what I wanted to share as a designer, had changed.

TOS gallery was about my imagination and artistic side. It was about nature and craftsmanship. About spectacle and show. What I wanted to work on wasn’t. It was about feelings. About feeling comfortable with who you are and what you look like. About the role that garments have in this. About clothes uplifting your self-image, gently.
world creates pieces by feeling, for feelings.

Dear network

I want to start this post by wishing everyone the very very best for the coming year. In times that truly horrible things are happening, I also wish for us human beings to do better. To be more kind, more empathic and to take better care of each other and our world. If we are the species that's supposed to lead our world, we need to improve our methods.

In line with this sentiment of tenderness, I am getting ready to launch my new brand. A brand built around feelings and kindness, about the relationship between how we feel and what we wear. About being there for each other and accepting our differences.

For this, I am seeking long term partners to develop the brand and its distribution and communication. Sales agents, boutiques, marketing experts, influencers. I am an expert in my field, fashion design & styling, but a brand is so much more than that. I don't want to continue building this story as a one woman show.

This year started rough, I’m not going to lie…

…mentally I was in a pretty bad shape, financially as well, physically i wasn’t taking the best care of myself. It’s challenging to crawl out of something dark that comes at you from everywhere, including your own mind.

But as in all difficult phases we go through, it brought me very relevant questions and a strong focus to find answers. When you can see clearly what’s wrong, there is a clearer direction also for how to make it better. I defined problems and found solutions, some lasted and others did not. It’s an ongoing process. And as well, I realized it’s OK to not be ok sometimes.

This year I found back my connection to creating clothes. To the joy that I experience through it. I picked up draping, 3D research, the joy of exploring materials and to ‘sculpting’ shapes. To playing on the dummy, to puzzeling with patterns, to questioning seams and finetuning finishings.

As well, this year I really travelled again. Finally. To Paris, Valencia, Antwerp, Porto, Montenegro and Istanbul. Most for work, some for vacation and allllll for inspiration ☺️✨

Then, all had to be transcended into something that I want to wear. To products. To a story. My new brand. My new story. It shaped in 2023. It will launch in 2024. And it helped me so much to unfold a new way to apply and adjust my skills…

…I’m both thrilled as well as terrified for this brand to be ‘born’ soon, so, do stay tuned because I worked extreeeemely hard on it…☺️✨

…but am I psyched about this shoot! And this team! And this brand!

To see everything come together after having worked on and invested in this project for so long was crazy. But incredible. I’m grateful for this experience and to have the best team of all women experts in their field:

I love couture✨

To work as long as possible on a piece to make sure everything fits. The right placement of seams, an especially created jacquard, a deeply researched fit with technically challenging constructions and preferably lots of handwork. And the richest and finest finishings.

With my couture collection ‘Ensemble’ I wanted to tell a story of celestial togetherness of opposites Sun and Moon. And how they create all life in between their light and darkness. All variety, diversity, shapes and forms. All made of stardust.

Paris: I love ánd hate this city 😂

When I was younger I dreamt to become the next Dior. I was going to live in Paris, drink red wine, eat croissants, and work with an atelier where everybody wears fancy white coats to create incredibly poetic pieces. But my reality with Paris turned out a bit differently.

After having studied at the and having lived in Paris as a not-so-rich student, I still visit Paris regularly for work. And everytime I feel both excited to be back as well as frustrated 😂 excited to see my friends and to be endulged in so much beauty, art, refinements and inspiration. The exhibitions, the shops, the architecture and the flea markets always fill me with energy and inspiration.

Yet, I always get exhausted because of the sometimes difficult communication, confusing social structures and often the extremely crowded and loud, well, everything in this city. I’m a practical Dutch girl after all…

As a fashion professional I do want to point out that presenting in Paris can be very good for your brand. I presented multiple collections and even though some weren’t too succesful, the fact that you’ve accomplished a collection presentation at PFW is worth something for your brand positioning and credibility. This Ofcourse depends on your brand and target audience. But it can be truly great for PR.

So, I hope to be back soon with my new story ☺️✨

Something I underestimated, from the beginning, was sales…

My idea was to create something super beautiful, to present these creations and invite enough press and to then get picked up by press and buyers. That’s NOT how it works though except if you have famous buddies…😎

To create something that fits the market, demands research. Intelligence and a good product for a market confirmed price. And to achieve that, you need strong relationships with manufacturers and suppliers, amongst other things.

With TOS gallery I also lucked out as I wanted to start wholesale at the same time that Covid started. Needless to say, the collection didn’t get picked up. But I learned, I adjusted my approach and am working very hard at the moment to enter the market differently…under a new name and new vision…

And this whole adventure started late 2016 after I lost my dreamjob thanks to a company bankruptcy.

Like many others I started at home in my livingroom, but shortly figured that painting 120cm2 scarves at my tiny flat wasn’t really working. It did all start with painting, as I firstly learned how to draw when I was young. I drew allll the time in every notebook and chalked every sidewalk. Everything else came later.

After a few months I moved out to my first shared creative studio in the Houthavens. I stayed there for about three years and then found my current gorgeous studio next to Vondelpark!

I worked freelance, I worked in a shop and also worked on my own collections. I sometimes came home from the shop around 22h at night and went back to my studio the next morning for a similar day. I luckily now can live of my freelance work and support my brand as well as my private life ☺️✨soon I can show more about next plans!

Currently I’m in the final phase of my new brand.

The collection is in sampling process, the brandbook being finalized, labels and hangtags being finished, and now I need to choose how to visualize everything into photo, video, website and socials. And, most importantly, find sales agents to start wholesale in January 2024.

Everything is coming together beautifully but these last bits are extremely though. Financially (I didn’t take a loan or have partners nor investors), mentally (wat if it won’t be received well or doesn’t sell???) and physically as we’re switching into winter. Hello snot, viruses, fatigue and grumpyness.

With TOS gallery I somehow was more relaxed about these timelines, about pressure, or maybe it was just really more a creative adventure. I used to think that as a designer you just needed to present your designs, then get picked up by media and the clients would follow. This absolutely was NOT the case in my experience. There is so much more work then design and presentations. There is a pile to think of already paralel to the design process because everything has to fit together. One clear and interesting total vision, with a great product at a fitting price range.

This time around I started with partnering up for marketing, branding, business and sales. With a consultant for business in Germany, a marketing/sales agency in Paris and branding here in Amsterdam I consciously have been taking careful steps forward. I’ve found manufacturers that I’m thrilled about and that can work with my target prices with the quantities I need to start with. They produce for Dries, Filippa K, Tôteme, Prada and other high end brands.

And I’m dying to capture everything visually! But am still contemplating what’s best to do AND what I can afford…sooooo…stay tuned 👀

So. As you might have noticed. I’m very good at keeping myself busy. Even in times that I have less work, I find enough to do and explore.

Last year around this time I barely had work. Needless to say I was not in a great (mental) place at the time, but I followed some great advice of my dear friend : find back your joy.

I started taking pictures, something I love doing already for years, and wanted to explore further. I enjoyed analoge the most but also experimented with my digital camera.

From these shoots, where I also used my pieces ofcourse, I worked together with the stunning and cool with and together we created some expressive and experimental portraits. We created very personal looks and played around with poses, blur, and more.

Months later, when I had lots of work again, I was scrolling and stumbled upon my own photo. AT VOGUE. I ran around screaming for a few minutes and couldn’t believe it!

It’s the very most special thing when something you created purely from joy, no intended purpose or money goals behind it, becomes visible to the world. On !!

One of the most magical moments in the proces of making a collection, is the photoshoot. Everything comes together and becomes visual for the rest of the world to see. And as a young brand, without ginormous investors or budgets, it’s always a challenge to create that what you have in mind with the high standards you have, but without the necessary finances. But again, that’s also a bit what brings the charm. This shoot is still one of my favourites.
