JeanPaul Paula

We already introduced him in the previous newsletter, but in case you forgot, JeanPaul is a fashion stylist, former judge on Hollands Next Top Model, creative director, photographer, activist and what not.
For the fashion fest, he did feedback sessions with the designers about the concept of their collections. During the finale show, he will have a role as both a host and a judge.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Angelique Hoorn

With her agency Angelique Hoorn Management, she has been representing creative people since 1998 who work as a stylist, hair and makeup artist or illustrator. Her creatives have been working for brands such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Adidas, Coca Cola, Mercedes proving that she has an eye for potential. In whom does she see the most potential during the show?

Eastwood Danso

This 21-year-old self taught fashion designer from London is going to surprise us in the coming years. His label is named after himself and he is mainly inspired by life experiences, family and friends. In his designs, he experiments with how architectural and fictional concepts, shapes, unusual textures and prints of the garments can accentuate fashion.
He has already collaborated with Converse and thanks to his mentor Samuel Ross (Creative Director A-COLD-WALL*), he was able to present his debut collection during London Fashion Week 2019. While currently also being busy with preparing for London Fashion Week 2020, he will be present at the finale show as a critical spectator.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Caroline Krouwels

Designer, founder of own design studio CK Concepts, co-founder of fashion events Modefabriek, Denim Days and Denim Days, New York and former Head of Creative of de Bijenkorf. Caroline has a passion for fashion and knows how to shape this from concept to ex*****on. During the final, she will judge how the designers have succeeded in realizing their project.

Patta

Team Patta includes General Manager Tim Sabajo and photographer Violette Esmeralda and so much more. Patta has been leading in the Dutch sneaker and streetwear scene for 15 years. During the finale show, Tim and Violette will look at which team is best in presenting an collection.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Els van der Plas

As the General Director at Dutch National Opera & Ballet, fashion, especially costume design and the making of costumes play a major role in her work. She has been committed to art and culture development for years and will also make her voice heard during the final show.

Time to talk about the model life! Jessica Gyasi (model, writer, filmmaker and coach) has her own platform called Model for Models and offers workshops to young women to boost their confidence.

Lucky for us, she gave a model masterclass to all our fashion fest participants about ‘the model life’. She gave them insight in what to take into account when working in the industry, practised the catwalk walk with them and ended up causing a model battle in which participants “walked” against each other. She did not only leave the participants with knowledge, but also with a mantra to always remember: ‘you are good enough’.

On October 4, Yvonne Nusdorfer gave the fashion fest participants a masterclass called 'Boundary Free Beauty'. Yvonne is represented by Angelique Hoorn Management and her out-of-the-box way of thinking is probably why her art is featured in magazines like Vogue Arabia and Mirror Mirror Magazine and why she collaborates with beauty label NARS.

During one part of her masterclass, the beauty artists needed to glam up a model. In this glamsession, they were obliged to incorporate a ‘strange’ material in to the look. The options for strange materials ranged from feathers to thread and from fake leafs to small beads.

Yvonne truly taught the participants that beauty can be boundary free, leaving the participants inspired.

On September 27, it was time to get to know each other through some speed dating and to learn the importance of ‘first impressions online and offline. Melanie Bosveld came through with the knowledge about Personal Branding & PR.

Melanie is the founder of communications agency Kult&Ace and aims to close bridges between companies/brands and millennials and Gen Z. During her masterclass, she gave us insights about personal branding and pr and made the fashion fest participants work on their own stories. Does who you are or want to be aligns with how you come off online and offline? An interesting and important assignment for the future careers of the participants. The assignment continues, as Melanie gave them tips on how a good portfolio should look like and urged them to work on it!

On 11 September, Daan van Dartel and Marga Weimans each gave a masterclass to the fashion fest participants.

Daan is curator popular culture & fashion at Nationaal Museum van Wereldculturen and has developed ideas around fashion and popular culture for museum work. She was also a jury member during fashion fest 2018! Her masterclass was about cultural appropriation and how it displays itself in fashion. The fashion fest participants were educated about the subject and were asked to discuss several cases of cultural appropriation in fashion in groups. The cases ranged from Rihanna being on the cover of Vogue China to a Victoria Secret model wearing a Native American headdress on the runway. Always an important subject to discuss and now even more important due to this years’ theme.

Marga graduated as the first Dutch fashion designer from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. Her portfolio ranges from four collections showcased at Amsterdam Fashion Week to the first augmented reality dress at New York Fashion Week. During her masterclass, she told the participants about her career and took them through the process of a way that she comes up with new fashion design ideas. During sessions of a few minutes, the participants got small inspiration assignments about creating a new collection themselves. Overall, a productive and creative day indeed.

On May 25 and June 29 we had casting days for potential models for this years' fashion fest.

During these casting days, they were introduced them to the theme 'Follow the legacy', had portfolio shoots and mini catwalk trainings. Also, during the first casting day, previous contestants Meredith Joeroeja, Jeffrey Loewenicht and Delano Sullivan from fashion fest 2017 and 2018 also shared their experiences. The casting days made us realize how much potential is still out there!

Great performance!
Looking for volunteer performers: I am finishing a masters fashion research at Sandberg Institute and will present a performance during the graduation show at Nieuw Dakota in Amsterdam. I am looking for performers to be part of my project. As a performer you will ‘perform’ a large piece of cloth that is perpetually becoming clothing as it is folded around the body in different ways. You can choose to perform the garment, assist a performer or invite the public to participate. You will be working in a fun atmosphere. Availability: 2 hours minimum on 16/17/18 June. If possible on all three days. There will be 2 - 3 teams per day. If you are interested in work on the crossroads of art and fashion or if you like to gain experience in participatory performative practice, this is a great chance. I will provide food and will share the foto documentation with you. Information on previous projects: margretwibmer.eu
