Workshops Textile-link is a platform for artists and designers who work with textile and combinations of textile and other mediums such as paper.

Everyone who wants to have the chance of getting their work of art published in one of the future books of Textile-link can easily upload images in their own archive, available on our website. The uploaded images will form the basis for inspiring textile books which will be published by Textile-link under its own management in the coming years. The basic idea behind Textile-link is to publish extr

Last week I had the pleasure of teaching an exclusive Experimental Silk Painting workshop in the South of France, hosted by the wonderful Tracy Chaplin.
Together with her husband Chris, and their friend Jim, they created an incredibly warm and inspiring atmosphere. Every day we were spoiled with delicious homemade meals, surrounded by the beauty of a stunning French house and its magnificent garden.

The workshop takes place in Tracy’s beautiful studio, with space for only 5 students. That small group makes it very personal, focused, and special. Students travel here from all over the world to immerse themselves in experimental silk painting for five full days.

This year we deeply missed Nina Tvedt Sliper, who joined us last year but unfortunately could not attend because of eye surgery. I felt so sorry for her. We missed you, Nina ❤️

Some students stayed in the charming home of Tracy and Chris, while others enjoyed a luxurious nearby French house full of character and comfort. It truly felt like stepping into another world for a week: painting, experimenting, sharing ideas, eating together, laughing together, and creating beautiful work.

The results were absolutely stunning.See the photos for an impression of this very special week.

Discover how playful, intuitive and surprising silk painting can be. In this live online workshop you’ll explore transparent layers, flowing colors, stopping and directing the paint, and working with brushes, templates, stamps and simple tools.
No experience needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.

This is a fully hands-on session. We paint together as if we’re in the same room. You’ll receive a materials list (plus videos) so you can prepare your frame, stretch your silk, and gather the essentials: special silk paints, brushes, Ponge/Habotai 5 silk, sponges and a few extras.

The techniques you learn can be used for scarves, wall pieces, clothing fabrics or silk for nuno-felting.
The workshop is taught live in English by artist Ellen Bakker (NL).
Time: 5:30–10:00 p.m. (Amsterdam time) with a short break.

Langs kunst, kleur en vorm

Twee keer per jaar stap ik op mijn vouwfiets en trek ik er een week op uit voor een inspiratiereis door Nederland. De laatste week van maart was het weer zover.

Het werd een week vol kunst, kleur, vorm en nieuwe indrukken. Ik bezocht prachtige musea, dwaalde langs tentoonstellingen en nam onderweg alles in me op wat mij raakt en inspireert. Voor de langere afstanden pakte ik de trein, en daartussen fietste ik heerlijk van plek naar plek.

Het weer werkte niet echt mee. Koud, veel wind en regelmatig flinke regenbuien. Maar op de een of andere manier had ik geluk: vaak was ik nét binnen als er een bui losbarstte, en juist als ik buiten op de fiets zat, liet de zon zich weer even zien. Typisch Nederlands weer dus.

Wat mij het meest bij bleef van mijn inspiratiereis?
Niet alleen de grote kunstwerken, maar juist de details. Kleine fragmenten die blijven hangen. In dit filmpje heb ik deze details verzameld en op kleur gerangschikt.

A Journey Through Art, Colour and Form

Twice a year, I take my folding bike and head off for a week-long inspiration trip through the Netherlands. The last week of March, it was time once again.

It turned into a week full of art, colour, form, and new impressions. I visited beautiful museums, wandered through exhibitions, and absorbed everything along the way that moves and inspires me. For the longer distances, I took the train, and in between, I happily cycled from place to place.

The weather was not exactly on my side. Cold, windy, and with frequent heavy rain showers. But somehow, I was lucky: more often than not, I had just arrived indoors when the rain started pouring, and whenever I was out cycling, the sun often decided to appear again. Typical Dutch weather.

What stayed with me most from my inspiration trip?
Not only the large artworks, but especially the details. In this video, I gathered those details and arranged them by colour.

Expositie Zsófia Marx & Ellen Bakker
De Kracht van Zacht - een dialoog van zijde & wol

In de expositie De Kracht van Zacht - een dialoog van zijde & wol presenteren Zsófia Marx & Ellen Bakker een serie textielobjecten waarin zachtheid, poëzie en vorm samensmelten. Zij werken al langere tijd samen en delen een sterke fascinatie voor kleur, dessin en vorm. In hun gezamenlijke werk, dat zij Artful Objects noemen, combineren zij handgeschilderde zijde met wol. De zijde wordt door Ellen beschilderd en vormt het uitgangspunt in kleur en beeld. Zsófia verwerkt de zijde tot tactiele, ruimtelijke objecten waarin zachtheid en stevigheid elkaar versterken. Het is een unieke samenwerking waarin ieders signatuur herkenbaar blijft. De samenwerking is gebaseerd op experiment en vertrouwen in het materiaal én in elkaar.

Naast hun gezamenlijke werk tonen Ellen en Zsófia een selectie van hun solowerk. Zsófia Marx presenteert een aantal ruimtelijke solo-objecten, waarin haar onderzoek naar vilt als autonoom materiaal zichtbaar wordt. Ellen Bakker toont haar collectie handgeschilderde zijde en vilt, met onder andere schilderijen, wandobjecten en grand foulards. Haar werk kenmerkt zich door intens kleurgebruik, grafische vormen, transparantie en gelaagdheid.

Ellen Bakker geeft tijdens de expositieperiode een workshop experimenteel zijdeschilderen op 15 augustus 2026, en Zsófia Marx geeft een workshop BLOOM op 19 september 2026

De Katoendrukkerij in de Volmolen in Amersfoort is een historische plek met een lange relatie tot ambacht en materiaal. Oorspronkelijk gebruikte men de molen voor het vollen van wol, een veredeling waarbij geweven wol wordt verdicht en versterkt. Nu het een werkplaats voor blokdrukkunst en een culturele locatie waar hedendaagse kunst, ambacht, erfgoed en experiment samenkomen. De expositie sluit inhoudelijk aan bij de geschiedenis van deze plek. Het werken met wol, vezels en handmatige technieken krijgt hier een extra laag door de context van het gebouw zelf.

Van penseel tot vilt - een heerlijke dag zijde schilderen en vilten

Afgelopen dinsdag kwamen Sanne van Dam, Lilian van den Einden, Marry Potjes, Minka de Weerd, Jolanda de Haas en Carine Lammers naar mijn atelier om een gloednieuwe workshop uit te proberen: Van penseel tot vilt.

We begonnen ontspannen met koffie en iets lekkers, waarna ik verschillende zijdeschilder-technieken demonstreerde. Daarna kon iedereen zelf aan de slag. Ik had een groot doek pongezijde van maar liefst 300 x 140 cm opgespannen, verdeeld in zes vakken met een afkadering van gutta. Deze gom sluit de vezels van de zijde af, waardoor de verf niet verder kan lopen en elke schildering zijn eigen ruimte krijgt. Voor wie tussendoor wilde experimenteren, stond er ook een oefenframe klaar.

Al snel ontstonden zes totaal verschillende werken: uiteenlopende stijlen, kleurcombinaties en dessins, elk met een geheel eigen karakter. Tegen lunchtijd waren alle schilderingen klaar - een prachtig gezicht, zo naast elkaar.

De cursisten trokken Deventer in om te lunchen, wandelen en winkelen, terwijl ik de zijde stoomde. Door langdurig stomen wordt de verf watervast, zodat deze later tijdens het vervilten niet uitloopt. Ondertussen zocht ik bij elke schildering passend voorvilt uit en knipte dit op maat.

In de loop van de middag druppelde iedereen weer binnen, vol verhalen en met goed gevulde tassen. De zijde kon uit de stoommachine, werd gewassen, gestreken en daarna begon het tweede, minstens zo magische deel van de dag: het nuno-vilten.

De beschilderde zijde werd bovenop de wol gelegd en samen natgemaakt met water en zeep. Met behulp van mijn viltmachine (die het zware rolwerk overneemt) kon het viltproces starten. Daarna volgde het handwerk: rollen, kneden en voelen. Langzaam kwamen de wolvezels door de zijde heen en begon het krimpen. Omdat wol krimpt en zijde niet, ontstaan die karakteristieke bolletjes en structuren aan de oppervlakte, die het werk zijn levendigheid, g***s en diepte geven.

Rond half zeven waren alle zes stukken prachtig vervilt. Na uitspoelen, centrifugeren en strijken konden de resultaten mee naar huis. Wandpanelen, kledingstukken, onderdelen van grotere kunstwerken, tassen, etuis ... de ideeën vlogen over tafel. Textiel dat direct tot de verbeelding spreekt.

We waren het er allemaal over eens: dit was een bijzonder geslaagde dag, intens, inspirerend en absoluut voor herhaling vatbaar.

Deze workshop staat nog niet op mijn website, maar wie enthousiast is geworden en ook zo’n dag schilderen en nuno-vilten wil beleven, is van harte welkom op 2 september of 17 december 2026.

Where Color Finds Its Way
A five-day retreat of experimental silk painting in the South of France

Join me for an immersive week of experimental silk painting in the South of France. After a highly successful workshop last spring, I return in May 2026 to teach once again at the beautiful home and studio of Tracy Chaplin.
Set in an enchanting house with a lush garden, this workshop offers the rare combination of deep creative focus, personal guidance, and relaxed French hospitality. It is a place where time slows down, and creativity can fully unfold.

During five intensive yet unhurried days, you will explore the expressive possibilities of silk painting. The emphasis is on freedom and experimentation: you may work intuitively, try out different techniques, or focus on creating finished pieces such as flowing silk scarves, fabric for garments, wall pieces, or silk for nuno-felting.

You will learn how to:
• let color flow and how to stop it
• work with transparent layers and rich color interactions
• influence the painting process using brushes, templates, stamps, and unconventional tools
• trust intuition and transform white silk into vibrant, personal work

Each participant works on a large frame with plenty of space, time, and attention. With a maximum of five students, the workshop allows for in-depth, individual guidance tailored to your level and interests.

No prior experience is required. Beginners are warmly welcome, as are experienced makers looking to deepen or loosen their practice. Above all, this week is playful, surprising, and deeply rewarding.

You will stay on site and be spoiled daily with delicious home-cooked meals prepared by Chris, using fresh, local ingredients. All meals are included, allowing you to focus entirely on your work and enjoyment.

Last year’s group described the week as inspiring, generous, and unforgettable - a creative retreat as much as a workshop. Many beautiful pieces were created, but just as importantly, confidence grew, ideas expanded, and new directions emerged.
