More than a year ago, Zsófia and I started a joint project where we combined my hand-painted silk with Zsofia's hats. It was an inspiring and surprising journey of discovery. Which designs work best? Which color combinations reinforce each other? And how do the designs best survive during the felting process? The unique hats that resulted from our collaboration are fantastic. We are both very excited about the endless possibilities that our merger of techniques has opened up.
We like to share our experiences with you during an online tutorial and behind-the-scenes experience.
Starting on April 27th we will be releasing a series of two transformational videos, leading up to a live Q&A session. This powerful content has been designed to help you boost your creativity, to inspire you and offer you our best strategies for creating stunning wearable art.

Silk painting meets hat making . . .
Ellen Bakker meets Zsófia Marx . . .
More than a year ago Zsófia and I started a joint project, in which Zsófia added my hand-painted silks to her woolen hats. It has been a highly inspiring and surprising journey of discovery.
Which designs work best? Which colour combinations enhance each other? How can we best maintain the designs during the felting process?
The series of unique hats that were created through this collaboration are simply fantastic. The both of us are very enthusiastic about the merger of our specific techniques. The opportunities are endless.
And this is not all. We will soon introduce a combined online masterclass, in which you can learn special techniques on how to make hats from hand-painted silk with wool in your unique handwriting. Continue to follow us, more details will follow soon!

During the workshop you will learn what the effect is of working with various transparent layers, making the paint flow, but also stopping the paint. You will be introduced to working with brushes, templates, stamps and other tools. But above all, you learn to intuitively fill the white silk with color and shape.
We will use Ponge/Habotai 5 silk. This type of silk gives a beautiful result for silk painting. And because it is very thin, you can also use it for nuno-felting.
No previous painting experience required to participate this workshop.

Vorige week was het 2 dagen "full house" in mijn atelier/winkel in Deventer.
Donderdag kwamen er 7 dames zijde schilderen. Twee van hen kwamen de 2e dag terug voor de 2-daagse en 5 nieuwe cursisten kwamen vrijdag een dagje schilderen.

The result of a 2-day experimental silk painting workshop.
Last week it was 2 days of "full house" in my studio/shop in Deventer (The Netherlands).
Thursday 7 ladies came to paint silk. Two of them came back the 2nd day for the 2-day workshop and 5 new students came to paint for a day on Friday.

Vorige week heb ik met de trein en vouwfiets een weekje door Nederland gereisd.
En daarbij vele musea, galeriën, winkels en andere bezienswaardigheden bezocht in Leeuwarden, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Den Haag, Rijswijk, Laren, Gorssel en Ruurlo.

Last week I traveled through the Netherlands by train and folding bike for a week.

Dit is het mooie resultaat van de 3-daagse workshop intuïtief zijde schilderen en vervilten met wol.
Carla en Mirjam hebben in 2 dagen tijd een grote zijden doek beschilderd van 300 X 120 cm. Na het stomen hebben ze de zijde vervilt met wol tot grote soepele vilt. Kan gebruikt worden als deken, omslagdoek, opgespannen op een frame als wandpaneel of stof voor kleding.
This is the beautiful result of the 3-day workshop intuitive silk painting and felting with wool.
In 2 days, Carla and Mirjam painted a large silk fabric measuring 300 X 120 cm. After steaming, they felted the silk with wool into large, flexible felt. Can be used as a blanket, shawl, stretched on a frame as a wall panel or fabric for clothing.
