Hellen van Rees Atelier

[email protected] Hellen van Rees is a Dutch fashion/textile designer and researcher. She trained at Giles (2008) and Iris van Herpen (2010).

She has studied Fashion Design at ArtEZ, Arnhem (BA, 2009) and Fashion Womenswear at Central Saint Martins, London (MA 2012). Hellen won the Humanity in Fashion Award and has been shortlisted for the LVMH Prize. Her work is published in the books ‘Fashion Made Fair,’ ‘Sustainable Thinking’ and ‘Unfolding Fashion Tech,’ i.a. Hellen founded her company in 2012, and through the years discovered her u

nique position between fashion, art and science. After starting out with seasonal collections and showing at London, Paris & Milan Fashion Weeks, she decided to find her own way by converting to a Slow Fashion approach. She started working more directly with customers and focusing more on research and development of new concepts and materials. Collaborations with partners like Vogue Italia and Hessnatur, but also the University of Twente and Saxion UAS made Hellen into a designer who’s comfortable moving between different worlds; combining fashion, design and art with technical and scientific research. This also led to advisory roles at i.a. the Dutch Creative Industries Fund.

There are new items added to the collection! They feature many new, but also recognizable material manipulations and styles. Most notably there are items that feature textile strips in many colours, they are saved scraps from collections over the past 10 years. Have a look in the webshop for all the new pieces and below the artworks where the items are photographed and mixed with collages and illustration. Vanavond is het museumnacht in Enschede, een vol programma bij 9 culturele instellingen! De Museumfabriek staat volledig in het teken van Textiel Festival Twente! Om 20u zal ik in de Museumfabiek college-tour worden geïnterviewd, daarnaast is er nog veel aandacht voor duurzaamheid & recycling, met ook Annemieke Koster van Enschede Textielstad en Bas Assink van Twente Milieu NV en nog veel meer... This Thursday I'll be in Berlin for a keynote at the at Pioneers of Future Fashion event by Re-Fream. I'll be discussing "user centered and inclusive design approaches in the fashion industry for creating a better tomorrow" with Wolfgang Gumpelmaier-Mach and Anna Bernagozzi. Vandaag opent het Textiel Festival Twente officieel met het onderdeel Catwalk: Forces of Nature, waar ik als Curator samen met een heel fijn projectteam het afgelopen jaar van plan tot dat het er nu staat aan heb gewerkt! Door de hele regio, in de openbare ruimte op landgoederen, in steden, bij musea zullen vanaf vandaag kunstwerken te zien zijn, en dit is slechts het begin! Stay tuned! Vanavond is het alweer de laatste aflevering van BNNVARA 'We Gaan het Maken!' Een groot avontuur om aan mee te doen en te proberen oplossingen te bedenken voor problemen waar mensen met een ziekte of handicap mee te maken krijgen. Problemen in alledaagse handelingen die wij als vanzelfsprekend ervaren, maar hoe frustrerend als je ze ineens niet meer kan?! Vanavond ga ik aan de slag voor Nynke die door haar spierziekte niet meer zelf haar jas aan en uit kan doen. Een probleem dat ik in het begin ook onderschatte en waarvoor een oplossing nog niet zomaar te vinden was. Hoe het zal gaan en of het gaat lukken is vanavond om 21.30u op NPO1 te zien! Daarvoor is trouwens het programma van AVROTROS erop waarin ik ook meedoe als textiel expert voor hun test van strijkvrije overhemden. Een avondvullend gebeuren dus 😜
