Manchester Guardian, 29th July 1936. A glowing write-up of the man himself's defence of the Davis Cup as he bested Australia's Jack Crawford.

Fred lead Great Britain to a fourth consecutive Davis Cup title that day at Wimbledon. It would be his final appearance in the competition where, nine decades later, he still holds the individual record for the most total match wins whilst representing Great Britain.
