I am Dorrith de Roode from The Hague, The Netherlands. Graduated from the Utrecht School of Arts in 2003 and worked as an independent designer since then. In the years preceding the Arts academy I followed a four-year training at the Technical School for Fashion and Clothing in the Hague. During my eight year study, I followed internships at Walter van Beirendonck and Dirk Schönberger in my foreve

r beloved city Antwerp, I was nominated and won several awards including the Robijn Fashion Awards in 2003. The combination of the two studies; one technical study and one creative study, very much defines me as the designer I am today. I am always looking for new shapes on a technical level. Inspired by the invention of Madeleine Vionnet, a fashion designer from the 1920's who invented the bias cut technique. Concept, a unique cut and perfect finishing are very essential. From the conceptual phase to the very first drafts and storyboards, designing the fabrics, and the actual sewing of the product – everything is in my own hands and every step of the way is equally exciting and challenging.’

I share a studio with my sister, accessory designer Marlous de Roode. We are located at the BINK 36 in The Hague where we work on various projects together under the name Les Soeurs Rouges. In addition to designing fashion, I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others in a cosy and colorful environment. Not only teaching people in making fashion is what drives me, but I also enjoy to bring people from all over the world together and make them forget their daily busy life by making something with their hands. Lessons are suitable for very beginners, more or less experienced, children from 10 years old and adults. Because the groups are rather small, everyone can work individual on his or her own project, on his or her own level. Exept for children, a special beginner programm will be custom made for them. Lessons are both in English and Dutch and you do not need to have your own sewing machine at home. It is also possible to follow private lessons or book a birthday workshop party. Sewing machines, pins, rulers, scissors, iron, pencils etc. are present and do not need to be purchased. Fabrics and haberdashery (like thread, zippers and buttons) are not included. Lovely dress by Vonoya, with dark blue cotton lining, blind zipper and blind hem! The dress is a bit too big for the mannequin but fits the designer / maker perfectly!

On Saturday November 2, 2024 a new 6 week sewing course will start again

The dates of the lessons are as follow:

There will be no lessons on Saturday November 16, because there will be a free repair workshop in the Ypenburg library (you are also very welcome here!)

Vanaf zaterdag 7 september 2024 starten er weer nieuwe cursussen. Er zullen tot de Kerstdagen 2 cursussen zijn van ieder 6 lessen met 2 weken pauze er tussen in. De cursussen zijn dus dit keer korter, maar je kan natuurlijk altijd beide cursussen van elk 6 lessen mee doen. Ook zullen de klassen iets kleiner zijn om ieder beter te kunnen helpen en zelf meer energie over te houden. Dus wil je mee doen met de cursus, schrijf je snel in, want vol is vol!

OPEN DAG zondag 1 september 2024

Op zondag 1 september 2024 openen we van 12.00-16.00 uur de deuren van onze les- en workshop lokalen weer voor publiek.

Mocht je nog geen ervaring hebben op de naaimachine, dan kan je die dag even uitproberen hoe het allemaal werkt.

Marlous de Roode zal met haar kleur en stijladvies aanwezig zijn om in haar lokaal uitleg te geven over haar vakgebied. Zet deze datum vast in je agenda, want het gaat zeker weten heel leuk en gezellig worden! 🧵🪡💃🏼👕❤️

On Sunday, September 1st, we will open the doors of our teaching and workshop rooms to the public again from 12.00 to 16.00

If you have no experience with the sewing machine yet, you can try out how it all works that day.

Teaching a retired school teacher how to sew is so much fun! This lady made these nice striped pants with some troubles during the proces, but we blame the fabric. And her young spirit does not mind the imperfection of the garment and she wears it with a smile! And why bother, nobody sees the imperfection anyway.

XL LES ZONDAG 25 augustus 2024

Terug van weg geweest! Ja het was even stil hier want behoefte aan een adempauze, maar binnenkort gaan de lessen weer beginnen! Ook de XL les komt er als eerste weer aan!

Aanstaande zondag 25 augustus is er van 10.00 tot 13.00 uur weer een XL les.

Dit houdt in dat je lekker lang aan je project kan werken!

Zit je al op les en wil je een extra lange les doen? Dan kan je verder met het werk waar je tijdens de reguliere lessen mee bezig bent (maar iets anders mag natuurlijk ook).

Zit je niet op les en wil je eens ervaren hoe het is om achter de naaimachine te zitten? Welkom! Je kan beginnen met een nieuw project en een patroon zoeken uit de boeken en tijdschriften die er aanwezig zijn (let op: om een kledingstuk in 3 uur af te krijgen als beginner is erg ambitieus maar een begin maken kan zeker) of je kan een bestaand kledingstuk repareren , veranderen of op maat maken.

Zelf mee nemen: stof en fournituren, de rest is aanwezig. Inclusief koffie of thee en wat lekkers.

XL CLASS SUNDAY August 25, 2024 10.00-13.00

This means that you can work on your project for a long time!

Are you already taking lessons and would you like to take an extra long lesson? Then you can continue with the work you were doing during the regular lessons (but something else is of course also allowed).

Are you not in class and would you like to experience what it is like to sit behind the sewing machine? Welcome! You can start a new project and look for a pattern from the books and magazines available (note: to finish a garment in 3 hours as a beginner is very ambitious, but you can certainly make a start) or you can use an existing repair, change or tailor a garment.

Bring your own: fabric and supplies, the rest is provided. Including coffee or tea and something tasty.

Costs 48 euros incl. 21% VAT.

Monique had al een aantal jaar niet achter de naaimachine gezeten en besloot te beginnen met iets simpels. Een collectie t-shirts (ja ze heeft er inmiddels meerdere af met diverse vrolijke prints!) Prima project om weer een beetje gewend te raken aan de naaimachine. Nu is ze bezig met een hele mooie jurk, en we zijn erg benieuwd naar het volgende resultaat!

Ondertussen staat het nieuwe programma voor de 2e helft van 2024 op de website van De Mode Centrale. Er zullen twee cursussen van elk 6 lessen zijn, met dit keer daar tussen in een pauze van 2 weken. Ook zullen de klasjes iets kleiner zijn dan de cursus hiervoor om zo elke cursist meer aandacht te kunnen geven en zelf ook voldoende energie over te houden voor de les er na 😉

Morgen, zondag 3 maart 2024 openen wij, Dorrith de Roode en Marlous de Roode van 10.00-16.00 uur de deuren van onze les- en workshop lokalen in De Mode Centrale. Je bent die dag van harte welkom om een naaimachine uit te proberen, de kledingstukken die de afgelopen maanden zijn gemaakt te bekijken en de cursisten aan het werk te zien. Marlous zal in haar lokaal uitleg geven over haar kleur en stijl kennis. Daarnaast heeft ze een speciale aanbieding. Wil je op zondag 3 maart ‘model’ zijn voor een verkorte kleuranalyse (inclusief kleurenpaspoort), dan kan je deze boeken voor 55 euro in plaats van 110 euro. Op zondag 3 maart openen we van 10.00-16.00 uur de deuren van onze les- en workshop lokalen weer voor publiek.

Happy to have a new young upcoming fashion designer in the family! Jaily ( 8 ) the daughter of my cousin made this bag yesterday in one hour! Her first time behind the sewing machine and definitly not her last. She's got talent! Soon she will start with the new sewingcourse starting March 16.
