Back in the early 2000s, wool insulation wasn't the hot topic it is today.

Having manufactured wool bedding and duvets for years, we knew firsthand the natural benefits of wool. Alongside Greg Sweeney, founder of Eco Insulation, we started asking a simple question:

What else could wool do?

That thinking led Textile Products into wool insulation at a time when very few people were talking about natural fibre building products.

As demand grew, so did the need to keep improving. In 2008, we invested in a brand new CTS GROUP PTY LTD oven, the machine featured in these photos. At the time it was a significant step forward, allowing us to develop loftier insulation products with improved thermal performance and higher R-values.

It was another example of something we've always believed. Wool has incredible potential when you continue to innovate with it.

Fast forward to today and the conversation around wool is bigger than ever. The New Zealand Government is encouraging the use of wool fibre products in public buildings and recognising the value of renewable, locally grown materials in construction.

But for us, wool isn't the next big thing.

It's something we've continued to innovate with for over 50 years.

Wool has always been part of New Zealand's story. Today it's finding new applications, new markets and new opportunities, but the innovation didn't start yesterday.

Sometimes the best innovations aren't about inventing something new. They're about seeing new possibilities in something that's been here all along.

Wool isn't new. The innovation never stopped.

Team Building Sports Day 🏀💥

On Friday we got the team together for a well-earned sports day with basketball, dodgeball and plenty of competitive spirit.

It was great to see everyone getting involved, having a laugh, and working together off the factory floor for a change.

Our team puts in a huge amount of effort every day, and we're incredibly grateful for what they do. Textile Products has been built on the hard work of our people, and we couldn't do it without them.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a great day. Well deserved. Although judging by the way some people are moving around today, there are definitely a few sore bodies in the office and factory! 😅

Remember the wool yarn we showed being turned back into fibre the other day? ♻️

Well, this is what it becomes.

From w**d matting 🌱 to fence post covers, our customers are using recycled wool felt in a wide range of applications.

That's what makes contract manufacturing so interesting. Our customers bring the vision and the ideas, and we use our manufacturing expertise to help bring them to life 🏭.

It's always rewarding to see where these products end up and the innovative ways they're being used.

Not bad for something that started out as rejected yarn.

From this to that ↔️

When wool yarn is rejected due to faults or incorrect dye lots, it often has nowhere to go...

At Textile Products, this is where we step in ♻️ .

The first stage of our process transforms waste yarn into a soft, fluffy fibre. The yarn is chopped, opened and teased apart, creating the raw material that will eventually become wool felt products manufactured in New Zealand, used in a wide range of applications including w**d matting, packaging and more.

A look back at 1995.

These photos were taken in our cushion and pillow department at a time when New Zealand furniture manufacturing was thriving and demand was strong.

Thirty years ago, products like these were being made right here in New Zealand. Manufacturing provided skilled jobs, supported local families and helped build strong communities across the country. Businesses backed other businesses, and there was a real sense of pride in making things locally.

Looking back, it's a reminder that many of the companies we once supplied have sadly closed their doors as offshore manufacturing and imported products became more common.

A lot has changed since then. The manufacturing landscape looks very different today, but the importance of local manufacturing hasn't changed.
Every product made in New Zealand helps support jobs, develop skills, drive innovation and keep valuable manufacturing capability in our own backyard.

Looking back at these photos reminds us how important manufacturing has been to New Zealand's story, and why it's worth continuing to invest in its future.

We're proud of where we've come from, proud to still be manufacturing in New Zealand today, and proud to work alongside other Kiwi businesses that share the same values!

R&D isn’t always fancy labs and expensive equipment 😂

Last week it was a sandwich press.
This week it’s a cake container.

We’re just over here cooking up something that’s never been done before!

You’ll probably watch this video and think “what the heck are they doing?” but sometimes the best ideas start with a bit of trial and error… and a random kitchen item.

We’ve been working closely with Upskills over the past few years to support the growth and development of our team. Proud is truly an understatement!

Through a tailored programme to strengthen their skills within the workplace, our staff are continuing to grow in confidence and capability every day. We’ve seen massive growth in our team.

Our people are what make the wheels turn. We couldn’t do it without them, and they add real value to the Textile Products family.

Most importantly, this journey is about empowerment. It’s about giving our people the tools, confidence, and opportunities to continue growing, both professionally and personally.

Watching our team embrace this programme and push themselves to new levels has been inspiring. We’re committed to investing in our people, because when our staff grow, our whole organisation grows with them.

Glow up over the years 👀

Three business cards. Three different logos. A few different hairstyles along the way (let’s not talk about the frosted tips and bowl cuts)!

And yes, that first business card is an original. We’ve still got one sitting in the office.

The look has changed, but the goal hasn’t: keep evolving, keep improving and keep moving with the times. 60+ years later and we’re still not finished!

From Waste to Wadding ♻️

For customers looking to cut waste, it often begins by reimagining what’s possible.

Working alongside one of our customers in the bedding industry, we’ve helped transform their wool and cotton quilting offcuts into a new wool/cotton blend wadding - enabling them to reuse materials within their own process.

The result is less waste, more value from existing resources, and a practical step towards a more circular way of working.
