Back in the early 2000s, wool insulation wasn't the hot topic it is today.
Having manufactured wool bedding and duvets for years, we knew firsthand the natural benefits of wool. Alongside Greg Sweeney, founder of Eco Insulation, we started asking a simple question:
What else could wool do?
That thinking led Textile Products into wool insulation at a time when very few people were talking about natural fibre building products.
As demand grew, so did the need to keep improving. In 2008, we invested in a brand new CTS GROUP PTY LTD oven, the machine featured in these photos. At the time it was a significant step forward, allowing us to develop loftier insulation products with improved thermal performance and higher R-values.
It was another example of something we've always believed. Wool has incredible potential when you continue to innovate with it.
Fast forward to today and the conversation around wool is bigger than ever. The New Zealand Government is encouraging the use of wool fibre products in public buildings and recognising the value of renewable, locally grown materials in construction.
But for us, wool isn't the next big thing.
It's something we've continued to innovate with for over 50 years.
Wool has always been part of New Zealand's story. Today it's finding new applications, new markets and new opportunities, but the innovation didn't start yesterday.
Sometimes the best innovations aren't about inventing something new. They're about seeing new possibilities in something that's been here all along.
Wool isn't new. The innovation never stopped.
