Partner spotlight: Austin American Awning

We recently worked with Austin Awning on a project in Texas: a couple of hip-style shade structures over a mud processing plant, designed to help keep ambient temperatures down while material is being processed.

Austin Awning had moved away from this type of structure because they didn’t have the capacity to dedicate to manufacturing it. Working with Shade Systems Global has helped them bring it back for their customers.

Their General Manager Thomas told us:

Why is the roof on a Tensara Canopy™ always white? 💡

For custom shade sail orders, allow around two weeks from order to delivery at your door.

It takes around five working days to pattern, cut and manufacture your sails at our custom factory in Dargaville, followed by about a week for Express delivery worldwide. ✈️

💚 There’s plenty to admire overhead, and plenty of room to enjoy it.

For this project in Florida, our partner Coastal Canvas and Awning cleverly designed the shade sails to utilise an existing former water tower frame. By making use of the existing structure, they created loads of shade across the seating area while keeping the space below open and unobstructed.

Why let playgrounds sit empty when the weather gets hot?

Research from Western Sydney University found that playground surface temperatures were, on average, 36°F cooler under shade than in direct sunlight.

When you’re chasing a lob, the last thing you need is a column in your path. 🏓

A pickleball canopy needs to allow for the game beyond the painted lines, as well as the court itself. Our Tensara Canopies use clear spans to keep the playing area open, with the size and height designed around the space.

The room around the sidelines deserves as much thought as the cover overhead, because players need somewhere to go when the rally gets interesting.

Here's something you might not expect, those triangular-looking shade sails are actually square. 👀

The secret is in the shape. By lifting and lowering alternating corners, the fabric forms a three-dimensional hypar curve that gives each sail its distinctive twist.
