WARNING! ⚠️ Sock infatuation incoming!

Seriously!
It started before a trip to SA 2 years ago, when I needed some cool socks to pair with my Safari boots (according to the Pinterest board I had collected on ‘Safari outfits’)…

Shortly after, when I upped my Pilates to 5 sessions a week, I noticed grip socks started to accumulate and spill out of my car door storage

Roll on to joining a tennis group. I’d already collected a few gorgeous tennis 🎾 outfits from The Upside. But each needed the perfect sports crew sock to complete the look…
(Sidebar: this is the s**t you deal with when you decide to open a fashion store…)

But the most recent, and unexpected sock obsession started thanks to a local lady who will be named: ANDREA MOORE!!! She doggone went and launched a Merino Sock company called The Specials…. and she was bloody on the mark!
As promised, they’re ‘Anything But Ordinary’….
So now I own 4 pairs…
But they’re the cutest, and the toastiest, and I’m supporting local, and a friend (whom you can also find working at Nomad + Home some Sundays and Mondays)
So I’ve just submitted, cause that’s too many win win win wins to ignore….

So at you own peril, get your sock infatuation started:

You’re most welcome!! X

More and more often my little catch ups with you ladies end up in chats around exhaustion, peri-menopause and constantly feeling like we’re just not coping with life.

In light of my recent relapses with CFS/ME (chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis), compounded by Menopause, I’m delving more into how I can regulate the nervous system, to bring it back into ‘Ventral Vegal’ mode: where we’re calm but alert, resilient to stress, socially engaged, healing, thinking clearly… rather than this constant default to hyperarousal ‘fight or flight’ or hypoarousal ‘freeze’ modes, after seemingly minor ‘events’, or even without any ‘rational’ reason.

A few methods I find work when I’m hypoaroused/tired/brainfogged:

- cold plunge or quick cold shower
- humming or singing and playing the piano
- feet up the wall
- listening to calming music
- a short walk outside, making sure to keep my eyes up and take everything in, which can distract me from any negative inner voice loops
- being mindful of when my inner voice is not being very self-loving! And turning the statement on its head
- manifestation meditations
- gratitude practice

I think it’s awesome we’re more likely to talk about these things in 2026, and that we share info., because we’re sure as hell not alone!

A friend recently mentioned she has started using a neuromodulating device (not cheap) but seemed to be having an incredibly impact, and yet another mentioned her Shakti Mat combined with music and red light.

What helps YOU when you’re feeling exhausted??

Some days, getting out of bed with ME is tough, but the seamingly smallest things make a difference - like cuddles with my little fluff and slipping on bright, snuggly socks and red suede sneakers ❤️
