The use of baby bo**ies dates back centuries, with their origins deeply rooted in practicality. In earlier times, baby footwear was primarily focused on protecting those delicate feet from cold and rough surfaces. Ancient civilizations crafted infant footwear from materials readily available to them, such as fur, wool, or soft leather.

As time progressed, bo**ies became more than just functional; they evolved into symbols of care and tenderness. Among these properties are its fantastic softness, durability, cooling/heating and breathability. The fibers of Merino wool are softer, finer and more sensitive than many other fabrics.

Marion learnt to knit when she was only four. Her Mum gave her a pattern for knitted dolls clothes, showed her what to do and then sent her off to 'work it out'. "When I came back it was right" Marion remembered with a smile, "I've knitted ever since".

Joining just a year ago Marion is a productive member of Purple Patch with many items in store. Previously she belonged to a craft group which no longer operates. "I love mixing with people doing various crafts" she says. "I joined because we need to enable babies and children to have affordable knitwear" .

Knitting whenever she has 'a spare minute', Marion loves to make baby shawls, little jackets "anything that gives me a challenge" she says "it keeps it interesting. My Mum was a beautiful knitter who won lots of prizes at A&P Shows" We think you'll agree that Marion takes after her Mum and creates beautiful work too.

Marion has many items in store, she knits in 4 ply wool and her creations are soft and beautifully crafted.

Decorative knitting might have been inspired by patterns books published in the 1500s and 1600s for a variety of arts, such as embroidery. These offered simple designs on a grid, which translated easily to knitting, using different colours or alternating different stitches. Many elaborate designs have been developed for knitters, such as the cable stitch used on Aran sweaters, which was developed in the early 20th century in Ireland.

Our knitters love creating patterned items such as this hooded jacket with a cable pattern and wooden toggles - its available in two sizes: 2-3 years 60cm chest (N255) $113.50 and for 3 months 40cm chest (N252) $67.00.

Learning different knitting stitches is such fun! As a beginner you start with the basic knit and purl stitches. Then you can advance to all sorts of interesting and beautiful knit stitches. The most basic stitches in knitting are the knit and purl stitch. There are also other groups of knitting stitch patterns, like eyelet knitting stitches, brioche knitting stitches, rib knitting stitches (the rib stitch), broken rib stitch – (the broken rib doesn’t have the same amount of horizontal stretch as regular rib), purl rib stitch, 1 rib stitch, 2 rib stitch, twisted rib stitches, rib stitches are used for cuffs and neck band. There are cable twisted stitches, and cable knitting stitches.

Our talented knitters use a variety of stitches and techniques to create beautifully patterned sweaters, cardigans and other items.
