From taking out first place at the iD International Emerging Designer Awards to one of regional Australia’s most distinctive fashion voices: Nehma Vitols

Since her 2017 win, Nehma Vitols has transformed the stories of regional Australia into fashion, creating collections that celebrate the people, industries and communities behind them.

Based in Griffith in New South Wales’ Riverina region, the designer and cultural producer has built a practice rooted in place, turning local stories into garments through craft, photography and community collaboration.

Looking back on her iD experience, she says: “iD taught me that great fashion can happen in small parts of the world. So Griffith, with its already vibrant arts scene and its food and wine, was a no brainer.”

Her work has since been featured by Vogue Italia, and in 2026 she was named a Ragtrader Gamechanger finalist alongside Akubra, Carla Zampatti and David Jones.

Following her acclaimed Vintage 2025 collection honouring the women of the Riverina wine industry, Nehma’s latest project, Citrus Threads, celebrates the growers, pickers, packers, juicers and families behind the region’s citrus industry. The collection will premiere at Griffith Spring Fest this October.

From Dunedin to the Riverina, Nehma continues to prove that extraordinary fashion can grow from a deep connection to people and place.

Get to know Lucie Marquis: joint first place winner of the 2006 iD International Emerging Designer Awards.

Nearly 20 years on, a lot of exciting things are happening in the world of Lucie Marquis. Now based in Sydney, Lucie is building her creative studio, LUCIE MARQUIS STUDIO, while preparing to relaunch her own label, LUCIE MARQUIS later this year.

So, where did it all begin? Lucie’s career started as an intern at Sonia Rykiel in Paris in 2005, before she went on to work with some of fashion’s most recognised names, including Burberry, Betty Jackson, Mulberry, Topshop Unique and Markus Lupfer in London. In 2019, Lucie relocated to New Zealand, where she designed across Kate Sylvester’s mainline collections.

Today, Lucie is building LUCIE MARQUIS STUDIO, a creative studio specialising in creative direction and collection development for contemporary womenswear brands in Australia and worldwide.

Alongside her studio, Lucie is also preparing to relaunch LUCIE MARQUIS later this year. Inspired by summer and travel, the lifestyle brand will debut with a collection of wrap sarong skirts and T-shirts, with plans to expand into new product categories and collaborations.

We can’t wait to see what this exciting new chapter holds for Lucie and look forward to following her journey from Sydney and beyond!

Images feature Lucie’s work for her own label, Lucie Marquis, as well as Topshop Unique, Kate Sylvester and Markus Lupfer.
