Sargood House

Sargood House Sargood is one of four Boarding Houses at St Paul's Collegiate School. Sargood House opened in 1961. The south (Senior) wing was completed in 1997. Davies, A.

Sir Percy Rolfe Sargood (1865-1940) was the head of a Dunedin textile manufacturing company. At his death, the bulk of his estate was converted into a trust fund for the benefit of the arts and youth of New Zealand. The trust fund subsequently assisted a number of youth organisations and educational institutions. The Sargood Trust made a sizeable donation – thought to be £10,000 – to the fledgling

St Paul’s in 1960. As a result of this generous bequest, the school's second* boarding house was named in honour of the benefactor. Permission was subsequently obtained for the House to use Sir Percy's armorial bearings (crest, shield and motto). However, the new building was not quite ready at the start of the year, so part of Term 1 was spent under a large canvas tent! The west (Junior) wing was finished first; the east wing and Housemaster’s residence were added during the second half of 1961 and opened the following year. Sargood House has a long history of sporting achievement, especially in Rugby and Rowing. Much of this success has been due to the energy and passion of its Housemasters, and the "never-say-die" attitude of its boarders. Established: 1961

Great day at our Charity House relay. Raising money for Flame Cambodia. Boys dug deep while we stopped throughout the day to watch the other boys competing in their finals at Maadi. Plenty of tired boys tonight.

Love is in the air and this morning our Harrington girls surprised the boys by redecorating our common room.
This was followed up at lunch by our boys gifting each girl a red rose. We hope they felt the love.

Absolutely stunning day at House Athletic Standards, Sargood really getting stuck into the events.
