Why wool is worth it?

🐑 It regulates. Wool traps air between its fibres, so it holds warmth when it is cold and lets heat go when it is not. The same blanket or jersey works in September and in March.

🐑 It resists odour and stains. Tiny pores wick moisture away, so odour-causing bacteria have less to work with, and the natural coating on the fibre shrugs off most spills.

🐑 It is easy to care for. Cold water, no wringing, dry flat. Most of the time a day on the line is the whole job.

🐑 It lasts. Wool fibre is elastic, so it bends and springs back rather than breaking. That is why it outlives almost everything else in the cupboard.

For most of the last 159 years, our wool left our farm in a bale and we never saw it again.

It went to auction, to a buyer, to somewhere. Someone ended up with a blanket or a jersey and had no idea it came off these hills. Neither did we.

As the fifth generation of farmers in Marlborough, Fred and Nikita figured that if their wool was going to end up as a blanket somewhere, it might as well be one they made, overseeing the process from sheep to shelf.

So that is what they did.

The wool still starts in the same paddocks it always has. It just comes back now with our name on it, and a straight line all the way back to the sheep it came off.

In cute news: we have lambs.

These are Romney lambs, the same sheep whose wool ends up in our blankets and in Romino™.

They will get their first hair cut soon enough, but for now they just get to frolic and enjoy the sunshine (when it is here).

It is called the Mini Tote, - which is, frankly, misleading. Sorry!

Phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, your emotional support scarf, and the ever present water bottle. Everything that matters and nothing that does not.

Made from wool that comes off our own sheep and gets pressed into our signature Woolast™ felt, which is why this bag will not pill. It will not fluff. It will not go soft and sad in the corners a year after you buy it.

Then open the zip and find a silk, linen and cotton lining, two zip pockets, and two bottle holders to prevent any unnecessary spillage.

Empowering moments happen when people come together!

A crew from Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand joined forces with us at the farm, tackling a monumental task with enthusiasm and dedication. Their effort resulted in 216 bags of sheep manure being shovelled out from under the woolshed, a whopping 4+ tonnes by hand!

The ripple effect of their hard work will be felt far and wide, as the Havelock Lions sell the manure to fund a life-changing Outward Bound course for a deserving Marlborough student.

A huge thank you to Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand and Lions Club - Havelock, NZ for making this happen and congratulations to the lucky recipient!

The hoggets have a second job.

They are grazing the rows at Park Farm Vineyard, just down the road. It works both ways: the vineyard gets its mowing done, and the hoggets get fed.

Sounds odd, wool being grown in a vineyard. It is really just two of Marlborough's best things doing each other a favour.
