NEWS JUST IN!! We are very pleased to announce that Hinds Service Station now has a new owner. From Wednesday April 8th the "Old Car Place On State Highway One" will be open, owned and operated by Ernie Schoenfeld who will continue the passion for all the old cars, antique auto parts, motoring memorabilia and collectables that have put Hinds firmly on the NZ "classic car map".
Martin will be staying on for a few days to work with Ernie before heading away to Marlborough for a well-earned rest and an active retirement, so would like to take this chance to thank all of the friends, supporters, customers and like-minded eccentrics for all the memories and all the fun that the past eight years have given. We wish Ernie "all the best" for the future as he takes Hinds Service Station to the 'next level', and we're sure that he will continue to keep all of our Facebook followers up to date with developments! Happy Motoring!!

Another new arrival at Hinds - and this one is a car for restoration that will be much easier to do than that monster Olds! This is a 1958 Jaguar 2.4, mechanically all complete and with a very solid body that has been protected in barn storage by a liberal coat of red oxide paint. All the chrome trim and fiddly bits are here and the red leather seats are excellent and altogether this would be a worthwhile project. A bid in the region of NZ$2500 would buy it ... and by chance today on eBay in the UK is an identical car, admittedly fully restored, but that one's the sterling equivalent of NZ$60,000...........

That 1947 Oldsmobile sold within hours! Gone for restoration locally. It has been replaced by another even bigger and even older Oldsmobile - this monster 1936 car with twin 'side mount' spare wheels. It is mechanically complete but desperately rough - well worth restoration but will be wildly expensive to do..... you could say a "king's ransome", if you follow my train of thought!!!

Another busy Saturday at Hinds ... plenty of visitors and some even spent a few dollars! Our "roadside attractions" today had an American theme, although both cars were New Zealand new. Trevor Begg's lovely 1937 Chevrolet (a family car from new!) sits alongside one of our sales cars, a huge 1947 Oldsmobile that will need full restoration.

We've got 2015 off to a good start! Re-opening on Saturday January 3rd after the Christmas & New Year break, our first customer of the day was Les Bennett from Ashburton who needed a 6-volt battery (new American-made Crown 6-volt batteries only $137 from Hinds!!) and some wheel cylinder kits. He arrived in a very appropriate car - his lovely (and very rare) 1927 Plymouth Deluxe Coupe.

Looking through some old pictures I found this shot taken at Hinds just after I had bought the place about 9 years ago and the old Challenge pumps are still there. Look at the price of a litre of diesel - it was $1.25.9. The price today? ......... $1.25.9!!!! Nine years later and the price is still the same!!!

Big or small - we've had them all! It has been great fun to buy and sell a wide variety of 'classic' vehicles at Hinds in recent years ... including these two. On the right is a Bedford A-type 7-tonner complete with working tipping deck and very sweet-running 300 petrol engine that was sold to a buyer from Fairlie, whilst on the left is a rare Fiat 1100 'Millecento' that has gone to an owner way up country in Whangarei.
